Thinking of doing a IPD Plenum

Thinking of buying a IPD Plenum for my 2013 S. They retail for $995 and figure another $500 to install might be worth it? Anyone running one and if so do you feel the difference? They say 15 RWHP and 14 fttq. I would tend to think you would feel that if you are driving it hard? Thoughts?

I think you would be better served putting that money and some more towards a set of quality used catted headers when they come up in classified. If not that than a tune like the Cobb AP.
The intake manifold worth doing on our cars is the Dundon Intake Runners, but they are much more expensive.
I’ve got an intake, full exhaust, tune and dynoed 363whp. I’m told with Dundon runners around 390.

Give this recent Smoking Tire podcast a watch/listen with M Engineering’s Mitch McKee. He knows a little something about what makes a 911 go fast. It was interesting to hear the mods that actually result in a loss of power.

Dimples help a golf ball fly farther but in an intake are they enough to make the claimed HP gains.
I’d have to see neutral back to back dyno comparisons changing only the plenums stock to aftermarket to convince me.

I have no experience with the product in question, but I'll make a general observation. Whenever I've seen honest back-to-back dyno traces for aftermarket intake systems, the advertised gains are at redline and for 90% of the range there is no gain or even a loss. How much time do you spend at redline? On a racetrack, enough to matter - on a public street, please don't.

I would cast another vote for carted/Sport headers. Without tune or any other change I got noticeable and enjoyable increase in HP and especially low end TQ on the 991.1 x51.

Search the forum as others have replaced plenum. If I remember correctly, results were meh at best.

The intake manifold worth doing on our cars is the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, but it’s a more invasive installation and requires ecu tuning etc.

I currently have a full exhaust (SOUL headers (200 cell cats) and SOUL valved exhaust) and would highly recommend as the midrange power is certainly felt and the sound is amazing!

I had an IPD plenum in my 987.2 Cayman S. It did diddly squat, from what I could tell. Maybe it sounded a bit "better" (engine is right behind your head), but that's about it. I put Soul long tube street headers on my 991.1 and that did make a noticable difference in performance. Not extreme, but you noticed a little extra push from the mid-range and up. And it sounds great.

So you like wasting time and money?
I've never heard of a more worthless mod.
Go to a DE event and learn instead.

Before you can get a quality answer, what other mods have you done already, if any? If you're doing this for power, exhaust and tuning should come before a plenum. If you're doing it for resale value, you would do just as well burning a pile of cash. I installed an IPD plenum and an AFE cold air intake at the same time, and dyno'd for the before after change, which turned out to be positive, but tiny (far less than claimed). For the two items together, peak HP increased by 7, and peak torque by 2. See attachment.

I've always laughed at this specific performance part. Borderline snake oil.

Most vendors claims are crank hp, not wheel hp so cut them in half. You won't see any noticeable gains just doing a plenum by itself and there are less expensive options from DO88 and others that will flow just as good, honestly, for half-ish the price. IPD is very proud of their stuff. Your best bet is exhaust and tune if you want noticeable gains. Exhaust alone doesn't add much either without a tune, honestly. If you aren't going to tune the car you might as well save your money.
