Picked up a 2018 Targa 4
I picked up this gorgeous 991.2 Targa 4 in Sapphire Blue Metallic. It’s got Sport Chrono, Sport Exhaust, Premium Package Plus, 20 inch wheels, PDLS+, etc… and most importantly, a manual transmission. Just 15k miles and CPO. I have to say that I am completely smitten with the thing.
It’s the second 911 that I have owned. I previously owned a 992 C4S that I drove for more than 35k miles over 2.5 years — epic road trip and adventure machine. Earlier this year, I traded it in at the peak of the market (those 35k miles cost me mere pennies) and got a Taycan 4S. I loved that Taycan and would still have it, had it not been totaled when I was rear-ended on a road trip.
The Taycan was totaled just two weeks after my Alfa Romeo 4C Spider was totaled, while it was sitting at the dealership for a major service. Yes, for real, I had the experience of a service manager calling me to tell me that my car was involved in an incident. Lots of senseless vehicle destruction and I didn’t even mention my Harley getting crashed into while it was parked two weeks prior to the Alfa. Yeah, that was a fun month.
Anyway, the Taycan is being replaced by an F150 Lightning that I have inbound. I got the Targa to replace the 4C Spider. I wanted to replace the Alfa with something special and truth be told, while my cashing out on the 992 was logical, I missed owning a 911. The little Alfa was a special car and I wanted to get something special to replace it. The Targa fits the bill.
I looked nationwide, but found “the car” less than an hour from my house. It’s enthusiast spec with all of the important stuff. The prior owner took meticulous care of the thing. Taking delivery of this 2018 was like buying a new Porsche. I feel like I chose well.
For years, I had driven other people’s Porsche’s before finally taking the plunge myself with the 992. While I have spent quality time in other 991s, I never drove a modern Targa. From the test drive, I was sold on the experience. As much as I loved the 992 (and I spent more time in the seat of one than the average bear), the 991.2 feels smaller, lighter, and frankly, feels like it has more character. The 992 is wickedly fast. That said, Porsche definitely lost something between generations. Considering the blowback when the 991 was introduced, it’s kind of funny to be looking at it like it is the more analog/smaller one. Perhaps, it’s the beauty of thing and the character of the Targa, but as much as I loved my 992C4S, I’m loving the Targa more.
By my RennList profile, I am clearly no newbie, but I did want to introduce myself to the 991 forum, because RennList is such a great community. Thank you!

That is one nice specimen. The colour literally jumps off the page while being notably different from the different angles your photos are taken from. Great spec - rare find with the manual too. It will be interesting to hear how your experience plays out over time relative to your previous vehicles. Welcome to the 991 board!

As a 991 owner, I've enjoyed reading your perspectives on the 992 and Taycan forums and love how you actually drive your damn Porsches. I'm on my third 991, so you are going to get no argument from me that they are a great choice! It is hard to believe that in 2023 the newest model year is going on four years old; the oldest being over ten years old. The example you acquired is particularly special. Enjoy it in good health!

Well done! I am biased but feel the 991 Targa is one of the most striking iterations of the 911 out there. And having the MT is icing on the cake.
I would suggest you get the side window deflectors and the Smart Top module to raise/drop the targa roof.
