Broken vent clip work around
After looking closer it appears all the vent clips are essentially broken (the previous owner must have removed it and broken them).
I’m not wanting to replace the entire vent. Anyone found an easy way to stick the vent back in without using clips? Any sort of wedging? Command strips etc? Any other work around?
What I did first was try to glue them back...no go. I didn't think it would work, but it was easy enough to try.
Here's what worked: I took the vents out and found some small plastic screws in my random *** tool box. The screws were small enough to fit the hole of the metal clip. I think the screws were from a broken remote control I took apart or something like that. I then used a small drill bit to drill a hole where the plastic is melted to the clip. I then screwed the clips into the plastic where the factory melted blob used to be. Some screws were too long and went all the way thru, but it missed the vents so no issue there.
The screws held the clips in well. I have had zero issues since doing this.
I thought I had pictures, but cannot find them at the moment.
I don't think even new from the dealer they are that expensive except if you opted for painted or leather vents.
I had all of mine replaced under CPO when the clips ended up on the floor.
