2023, but also 2017.

quick search gave me this old post https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1049...-standard.html

In short, option after 2015, standard after 2017. Also, since 2018 NHTSA has required backup cameras for all cars sold in the US.

All cars manufactured for model year 2017 and later came with rear view cameras.

Would a few people mind uploading photos of what their OEM back up cameras look like from the outside, and where they're installed? Thanks.

Hard to see from exterior photos, but below is the photo of my car I saved taken by the dealer before I bought the car. Rear view camera is circled in red.

Yeah, that's not a great photo, but thanks for uploading it. I just purchased a 2014 911 model, and it didn't have the option 638 on the build sheet, so I assume that this is aftermarket, but it looks similar to the current ones installed on the 992's. I was wondering how it compared to the OEM 991 back up cameras:

the way that is installed (ie. gap under it) looks aftermarket. Does your car have a carplay module added on as well? There are a variety of both carplay modules and just camera modules people add on to the 991.1 that have a back-up camera that integrates into the PCM. If you get into your passenger footwell with a bright light and look under the glovebox or pull the carpet back a bit you may see the aftermarket control unit if there is one (assuming its aftermarket and depending on where it is installed). End of the day they all work the same with some having more options than others (overlaying parking sensors, turn lines, etc) by tapping into the canbus of the PCM and reading the reverse gear.

Just retro fitting a reversing camera too. 991.1 GT3RS all parts purchased from Porsche, just about there if you search you’ll find the thread with part numbers etc.

Looks interesting…but no photos of an OEM camera installed…what size hole do you need to cut in the bumper for your installation?

I’ll post a drawing, it’s a square hole with two small tabs. I’ve actually 3D printed a template that fits the camera perfectly.

Can you post a close up photo, from a slight angle, so I can see if it's the same as the current ones? "
Thanks.

Thanks.
Im traveling, back tomorrow but I’d be happy to. It’s listed on my build sheet as additional equipment option #638 front and rear park assist including Reversing back up camera.
I’ll post a pick when I’m back home.
