Based on what I was told today (Porsche sales guy) they weren’t available before 2015. I thought I read somewhere that it wa standard on the 2017 MY cars. That said, I’m sure there are a ton of folks on here with more knowledge than most Porsche sales guys and me !

I think all cars manufactured in the US have to have back up cameras as of 2017. I don't know about imports, trucks, vans, etc.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requiring all new light vehicles — including cars, SUVs, trucks and vans — to have "rear-view visibility systems," in effect, requiring backup cameras. Completely phased in by May 2018.

Sure wish mine had them.

So from 2017 and older it’s an option?

If it is up to Porsche, everything is an option that you get to pay more for......

I seem to recall that until MY 2015 for the 991 you couldn't order with the rear camera. First available in that year and on.... When I bought my 2014 C4S it wasn't an option. As saa106 states, by 2018 ALL cars sold in the US are required to have a rear camera.

The backup camera and the parking sensors became standard on the 991.2s when they appeared as 2017s.

I recently drove a 2015 911 Carrera S that had the backup camera along with the parking sensors, both features presumably options for the model year.

I believe the camera became an option beginning with the 2015 model year. Certainly not with 2012.5 or 13. Don't know about the 14. And yes, it was an option on the 991,1

I have a MY16 (built 7/15) 991.1 with a backup camera as standard equipment (not listed on the options list).

I have started to look for a 911 (again. as soon as the Boxster is gone) One of the options I NEED is a B/U camera.
We have had cameras on our Macans and once you get used to it, it, you need it. (My neck muscles ain't what they used to be)
So, I guess I'm going to be looking at 2016's !!
What I want is going to be kinda' limiting...a 4 S Cabrio in certain colors...
I guess a retro fit is not out of the question,,,
Question about that, Has anyone done a retro fit?
Does it work with the standard head unit, same as factory option,,,and what is the approximate cost?
