Tx for this guidance. I need to be able to use the 911 4S when the roads are wet/slushy, so Michelin Alpin's or Pirelli Sottozero's will be the call. Do you have direct experience with either/both? And presume you endorse my choice of the 19-/20- " wheel solution?

I have no experience with either of those exact tires myself.

I am a fan of Michelin winter tires, as that's what I use on my wife's Audi (putting them on this weekend, in fact)

I'd probably get the Michelin if it were me, but that's just personal bias.

As far as sizes, I'd go with what Porsche recommends both in tires and wheels (looks like that picture is from their website? so yeah that's what I'd use)

Just make sure they work with your car... PCCBs, RAS, etc all effect the size wheel you can put on.

Copy that, tx Cur. I'm asking the folks at Porsche Nashua - they should have more experience with 911s in Northern New England winter than most anyone!

I had DWS06's on my '16 C7 2LT 7M and while it did ok, it was still pretty hairy at points where I just parked it if there was anything on the roads.

I have DWS06's on my '17 C2S right now, but I'm still not going to drive it when the roads are crapy. I have a CX-9 with Michelin CC2's on it for that.
I wish that Nokian offered there R3 (or equivalent) or Hakka in an appropriate size for the 911.

That being said, the Alpins PA4 N-spec definitely do the job in the light snow/slush/wet cold roads. Drove to work today and there was packed snow on the side roads, and the main roads were just wet. Zero issues. Daily drove the 911 (except for heavy snow fall days) last winter with no concerns or issues.

I have not used the Pirelli SZ on the 911, but have used them on a Mini Cooper S and was NOT impressed. They are a great COLD weather dry/wet tire. But on ice/slush and snow they were subpar as a winter tire. Their handling/feel was better than the Alpins though. I am curious to see how much better the Alpin PA5 (non N-spec) will be. Their tread pattern makes me think that they would offer better snow/slush performance.

I live 10-15 minutes from them... if you are in this area, and out of warranty I *highly* recommend Zak's Auto in Hudson, NH for any work you don't want to do yourself.

Rico is the SA I use, good dude. I'm getting my oil changed there next week, in fact.

thanks for that lead. Upper Valley (area around Dartmouth) is not populated with Porsche mechanics!
