Cross Country Drive
Here are some photos from our recent drive from Colorado to New Hampshire and back, a total of 5200 miles over 3 weeks. We did our best to stay off interstates, and explore a few selected areas or places.
After driving through swarms of butterflies on the eastern Colorado plains.
At Tallgrass Prairie National Monument in eastern Kansas. A very cool historic ranch.
At Missouri Mines State Park, in the southern part of the state, and once the center of massive lead mining.
At Browns County State Park lodge, in eastern Indiana. Nice hiking in the woods.
At Johnstown Flood National Memorial, in western Pennsylvania. The valley behind the car was once a man-made lake that breached its dam and wiped out several towns, killing more than 2000 people.
At my childhood home, Long Island, New York. My 95-year-old dad still lives here.
On the ferry from Long Island to Connecticut.
At Springfield Armory National Historic Park, with an amazing collection of rifles, most made here over 200 years.
At a friend's house in Amherst, Massachusetts.
At another friend's house in Pittsford, New York, on the Erie Canal. They bought the Suburban the same year as mine, when we all lived in Alaska. Both trucks still going strong.
At Indiana Dunes National Park, on the shore of Lake Michigan.
A frosty morning in Columbia, Missouri.
At Powell Gardens, just east of Kansas City.
