Default What’s it doing?

My car (2014 C2) is parked in the garage and battery is connected to a tender.

I’ll be in the garage working on something else (not on the car) and the car sporadically makes a click and a servo motor sound. Same noise the car makes a few minutes after parking it. But seems to still do this even when it hasn’t been driven for a few days.

Just curious what could this noise be from and what’s it doing? Only thing I’m doing that the car could be sensing is the lights in the garage.

My 991.2 does the same, assuming its normal but unsure what it is.

Never heard anything from mine when it was locked.

I also left it locked and never, ever used a trickle charger.

It might be the approximate sensor sniffing out your key fob? just my SWAG.

I’ll add my car is unlocked when it does this.

With the tender connected my hood is open due to the cable. If I recall the car will not lock if the hood is unlatched.

….is it maybe the hood mechanism attempting to latch?

you can actually run the cables/wires up from the battery towards the windshield so that you can close the hood. There's a little cut out perfect for running the wires out directly above the battery.

you can try that and see if the car still makes noise with the hood closed.

It's an emissions thing. The fuel system is a closed system. Periodically the system will test itself by pressurizing the system to check for leaks (i.e., maintains pressure). Happens on all modern cars.

My guess to but I haven’t heard this from C4GTS. Mine is locked unless I’m driving or doing something to it. My wife’s Volvo XC90 likes to do that.

Anecdotally, I've never witnessed my '17 doing this.

For some reason I never considered that and was even plotting out a scheme to run these wires out the front bumper/grill area. I’ve since rerun my wires this way and hood is closed. Thanks for the tip.

You sound like an engineer.

My E63 does this as well, can hear solenoids / relays / air suspension clicking/whooshing/etc intermittently despite sitting for a week. Always gets my attention when working in the garage.

The keys are 30 feet away and not in my pocket when this happens.

Have not noticed the 991.2 doing this yet after sitting for days. It does make various noises for the first moments after being shut off.

It's like my dog sitting next to me on the couch: stretches and makes noises, because it wants to be taken out for a run.......
