Tow Hook and other fun things that happened to me.
Now is the time for my annual maintenance so I made an appointment at Porsche Clearwater for 11 AM and off I went. We left at 8:30 because it's a 2 hour drive and there could be traffic. About 2/3 of the way I get a TPMS warning that my driver's rear tire is 12 psi. I'm on I-4 in the left lane with traffic and I can't really get over for the next exit without possibly causing an accident if the tire blows and so I continue and in about a mile it did blow and shredded the tire. OK, I call Porsche Roadside Assistance and they say 90-120 minutes. After 2 1/2 hours I call and they say after some checking the truck ain't coming and they will have to get someone else ! That guy did show up after 45 minutes and was great. Before he came I got the tow hook out and popped off the circular piece that covers the hole but when I tried to screw the tow hook in it wouldnt . I'm hot and frustrated at that point but I thought as a last resort I would look at the owner's manual. It's a left handed thread ! Lefty tighty. That worked easy. How many people know that ? So now we pile into the truck cab where my wife and I sit on a seat designed for one. He loads the car and we drive 30 or so miles to the dealer. They have a Pirelli Pzero so replace the tire, do the 10k maintenance and replace the battery as it failed a test, it was 6 years old. I think that could be why my fan motor wasn't always coming on. The towing was free under CPO warranty and they gave me $275 off for PCA so $1500 out the door. They checked the water pump for leaks and found none. I went to this dealer ( continued below picture )
because local PCA members told me they were good and it's family owned and they were good. My wife and I are 80. I had replaced the original Pirellis 6 months ago with Contis and they had 3k miles on them.

They couldn't determine what caused the loss of pressure but I did feel something from the left rear a while before it happened, like I ran over a slight bump. Also the tire cost $388 and Tirerack is $495 ! They did charge $50 to mount and balance.

Like you, I learned that the tow hook is LH thread the hard way. I was prepping my car at the track for the first time. I must have tried screwing it in for at least 5 minutes before finding out via manual its LH thread. The Germans are at it again...
Sent you a PM on Summit Point. PCA Potomac does not require, but highly recommends. All the dedicated track cars have two. Many of the drive to and from do not.
Tow hook screw direction reminded me of another car in another century… in college driving a ‘64 Triumph TR4A with wire wheels and knock off spinner… the brass hammer was in the trunk… my first flat tire… get the hammer and hit the spinner- nothing! … apply more force- again nothing! … thinking I really needed to hit it HARD, I blasted it and did get some movement (Yes, I did tighten the wheel)… finally, as I was ready with all my strength, hammer in the air… a friendly guy walks over and tells me he had a Triumph too and remembered when he had a flat and didn’t know the threads were reversed… I was mortified…
