I owned a 981 Cayman GTS PDK and loved it but always felt it would be a more engaging car with a 6 speed manual. My wife prefers 911's, so I sold the 2016 Cayman GTS and bought a 2012 991.1S PDK w/ Sport Chrono Plus. I've never wished for a 7 speed manual in the 911 but miss the tighter more buttoned down feel of the Cayman GTS. I can't fully explain why, but the Cayman GTS is preferable with a 6 speed manual, while the 911 feels best with the PDK. I slightly prefer the appearance of the 991.1S but the Cayman is a close second. I don't know if any of the above helps with your decision.

I've settled on a solution that my wife agrees with. 11 months ago I ordered a 2023 718 Cayman GTS manual & recently ordered a 2023 Macan GTS. Just keeping my fingers crossed that Porsche doesn't pull the plug on the ICE versions before I get build slots for both.

To me thee are very different cars, making the decision easy after considering intended use.
Scott,
I agree with you completely.
When I had my 991.2 T, my wife and I took it on an 1100 miles road trip last summer. Just over 4 months ago, I sold my T for 981 GT4. While GT4 is superior on the track and curvy roads, 911 (991.2 in my case) was much better for everyday usage.

OP,
Pick what is best for you now and in the near future. Since I have a daily SUV, I would pick GTS without a second thought.

Cheers,

We own a 2014 991.1 pdk and a 2021 Cayman S 6spd. Of the two I like the 911 better I enjoy the sunroof, more interior room(I am 6'1") and quieter interior on the highway. Cayman is fantastic for backroads and I love the 6spd. On long road trips the Cayman interior noise is tiring to me.

Price being no object, I'd pick the GTS 4.0. That said, a lightly used 4.0 will cost $30-50k more vs. a similar mileage 991.1S. I've driven both (and own the 991.1s)... and while the gts 4.0 is a superior track car, I'm not sure if it's worth the price premium given how good the 991.1S is
