Yes it will void your warranty. Even if you flash back to stock there is still a record of it. That being said they would have to look to see if you tuned it. So if it’s a minor issue they may not look if it’s major they probably will. Originally Posted by 305/718

If you would tune it in a few years after how ever many miles of use, then you might as well tune it now because you’re going to be “risking” sooner or later the additional maintenance up to and including rebuilt drivetrain or engine, so you might as well start enjoying the extra power now.

I assume he paid extra for CPO so I’m not sure that makes sense. Also what if he doesn’t have catastrophic issues and they denied a claim for a water pump? We all have our levels of comfort. It’s still doesn’t change the answer yes it will void the warranty if they find out. Originally Posted by MingusDew

I did not pay extra but I was able to negóciate the dealer throwing it in in order to close the deal. It was literally the last day of the month and they seemed really desperate to move this car. Originally Posted by NHmacan

apparently every time they move a cpo they get one new allocation.

IMO - Considering you just got the car, if i were you, i'd leave it as is and stack up the miles and smiles for a while before tweaking with tunes. Most have been proven safe and there's no question they'll up your HP. Some dealers even install the GIAC tune for you. BUT, you just got the car and its CPO. Learn the car. You'll then be able to even notice the tune if/when you add it later, AND, you'll have driven it enough to expose and sort any issues that could surface with a used vehicle without any risk of "....well you tuned it so we're not covering that problem" from the dealer.

I tuned my car within 3 months of ownership it was a 17' 991.2 CPO with 4 years warranty. I went with an APR tune, haven't had any issues, about 10K miles with the tune multiple track and autox days in addition to city driving

Installed the Softronic tune within 1st month of ownership. My 991.2 still had cpo and my experience with speaking to Scot was that he was knowledgeable in the tuning world. He took the time to answer all of my questions and requests. Since my time I’ve put about 4k miles and haven’t had any issues with it.

Yes, technically it will void the warranty. But after years of tuning of various (brands) of cars, and spending countless of hours on forums (hi my name is 911hammer and I'm an addict) ... I have yet to see someone write about being warranty denied due to a software update alone.
There are several good tunes out there. Softronics consistently gets good reviews and I what I went with. Best way to describe it. Fast, linear and, in my opinion, how Porsche would tune it if they would provide any.

My tune experience. I found an identical 7 MT as my base 991.2. It had the Cobb tune. Dealer would not certify theirs for CPO unless you gave the $8k to undo the "tune" and any other aftermarket stuff. My experience was under 3500 rpm zero difference in driving. So around town driving no gain. On the flip side above 3500rpm the SOB ripped. I broke the 305's loose on a on-ramp. It pulled hard. Said ti was the 480hp tune. If I just floored I waited and waited and then finally it would go, so yes much turbo lag, not stumble just waiting for it to go. If you want to drive around at 5Krpms its worth it. I think on a track it would be priceless. Around town really had to get the rpm's up and it would launch. My stock on sport 2 was pulling 11 psig boost I was bouncing off 15 psig with tuned one. If it weren't for voiding the warranty and affecting resale its a no brainer. My lesson is I will not buy one with a tune because I know what I did with it. On the flip side a 991.2 without tune should last infinity....

Depends how yo define turbo lag, and it depends on the tune. Turbo lag, historically, had more to do with being in an rpm range of the motor where the turbos would build boost under full throttle, but you’ve let off the gas for whatever reason, e.g. middle of turn, and then when you get back on the throttle there is a lag for the turbos to spin up and make boost. This turbo lag behavior is what gave turbo cars such a bad rep in the 70’s/80’s, etc., but these days the turbos are so small and made with such good bearings and turbine design that you will not really ever experience this kind of turbo lag in a disruptive manner, tuned or not. The other definition, these days people say “turbo lag” and just mean the rpm that the turbo spins up and starts producing boost at, where “turbo lag” is just the sudden onset of boost as rpm build a newer full throttle. That behavior can be exaggerated with tunes, or it can be smoothed out; just depends on the tune. The Softronic tune is very linear and pulls harder and harder as the rpm go up, there really isn’t a crazy spike at low rpm, so if that’s the behavior you want then I’d recommend it over other tuners. My experience with Softronic is that turbo lag is NOT increased. In fact it’s the opposite.
