718 Spyder vs 991.2 Targa 4S
#16
I’m kinda qualified to chime in as I traded a 2016 Boxster GTS in on a 2017 Targa 4S. The Targa is a much better daily driver (especially at 6’5”) but I preferred the driving feel of the Boxster.
If I had a Spyder as a DD I’d probably rarely take the top off, and I drive with the top down on my Targa probably 80% of the time, so for me the choice would be easy. All depends on how you are going to use the car.

I mean the hump looks good for sure. But the rear bumper + the tail light part is the same as a regular 718 which I dont like.

Agree. I really think that the most important reason a significant number of people buy cars is so they can show off either at Cars & Coffee or on social media. If no one was allowed to brag about or show off what they drive, sports car sales would plummet. Sports cars are nothing more than a fashion accessory to a lot of people. If status is your primary goal, buy a 911.

Hey guys,
I currently owned a 2022 718 spyder and I am thinking straight trade my spyder towards a 2017 targa 4s. Both PDK. Any thoughts on that? I just prefer the targa look and a 4 seater would be much better daily. I dont like the rear look of the 718. 911 is a better looking one overall. Ordered new civic type r so no track use on Porsche any more.

Targa gets a negative rap for weight.....but it is still lighter than most new sports cars these days. And I have received 👉 by GT4s, GT3s, and even 991.1 GT3rs at Road America. Obviously driver comfort and experience levels play a large role in that, but on the flip side, illustrates these cars have such a high level, even the heavy targa. Closer to 550hp with the tune, hitting 155 before turn, is on par with GT4s with 4.5l.
So yeah. Targa>Spyder in my book! 😁

Just traded my 718 GT4 for a 991.2 Targa 4 GTS.
Zero regrets. I’m not carrying any less speed through the corners of the back roads I drive and the overall quality of the driving experience is significantly improved.
I also agree with the notion that the rear of the 718 looks odd - the slope/lines are not nearly as elegant and sweeping due to the short overall length.
