I’m kinda qualified to chime in as I traded a 2016 Boxster GTS in on a 2017 Targa 4S. The Targa is a much better daily driver (especially at 6’5”) but I preferred the driving feel of the Boxster.

If I had a Spyder as a DD I’d probably rarely take the top off, and I drive with the top down on my Targa probably 80% of the time, so for me the choice would be easy. All depends on how you are going to use the car.

I mean the hump looks good for sure. But the rear bumper + the tail light part is the same as a regular 718 which I dont like.

Hard to check blind spot with top up haha. And I am getting tired of putting up and down the manual top. Best looking boxster for sure but targa is the best looking in the whole convertible line up in my opinion.

Boxster not Spyder in the picture....
Targa is preferred to drive by me, and my wife to ride

Agree. I really think that the most important reason a significant number of people buy cars is so they can show off either at Cars & Coffee or on social media. If no one was allowed to brag about or show off what they drive, sports car sales would plummet. Sports cars are nothing more than a fashion accessory to a lot of people. If status is your primary goal, buy a 911.

Ordered new civic type r so no track use on Porsche any more.
How are you going to drive it? The Targa 4 is the heaviest 911 variant.

@Ksdaoski

what about the s2k?

How do you compare the ride between the Targa and the s2k?

S2k is a classic at this point. I'm the original owner and haven't been able to bring myself to sell it. The 9k is fun, but it's so slow in comparison. I rarely find myself driving it. 500 miles a year now. The transmission is the best ever made. The s2000 obviously feels much smaller. Very neutral. Feels soft in comparison. I had an Elise that was supercharged, and the Lotus got sold. If push came to shove, the S2000 would get sold this time. If I ever get lucky with allocations, the 7sp manual Targa will got flipped for a PDK Targa so my wife can drive it, and the Boxster gets flipped for a GT3. Or if a GT4rs comes my way, S2000 will probably see the door.

Targa gets a negative rap for weight.....but it is still lighter than most new sports cars these days. And I have received 👉 by GT4s, GT3s, and even 991.1 GT3rs at Road America. Obviously driver comfort and experience levels play a large role in that, but on the flip side, illustrates these cars have such a high level, even the heavy targa. Closer to 550hp with the tune, hitting 155 before turn, is on par with GT4s with 4.5l.

So yeah. Targa>Spyder in my book! 😁

The rear and the headlights make me not like the spyder but a great car. The targa is my all time fav 911 so am biased. Also I think the rear seat on the targa are useless; I think.

IMMHO it's no contest... 911 > Boxster/Cayman all day every day. The 911 is Porsche.

718 Spyder is one of the nicest Porsches ever made. Targa is nice but not comparable

Just traded my 718 GT4 for a 991.2 Targa 4 GTS.

Zero regrets. I’m not carrying any less speed through the corners of the back roads I drive and the overall quality of the driving experience is significantly improved.

I also agree with the notion that the rear of the 718 looks odd - the slope/lines are not nearly as elegant and sweeping due to the short overall length.
