Glad I made this post, I think we just uncovered the first non-RS PDK to MT conversion!
After the swap the valet is sure to park it out front at Dorsia!

Hahaha!

Well I’m surely in need of a CD to Tape deck conversion next so I can cruise to Huey Lewis & the News. It’s hip to be square.

You also have to remember that labor in China is probably a lot cheaper. You will need to figure out all the electronics and source that 7MT. But selling your PDK should be easy.

Exactly why I asked how many hours, not his cost Easy enough to convert using average US shop costs.

All in all, I am not seriously planning to pursue this. I wanted to know if there were alternative routes in the event of a PDK failure, as T9 design etc have made strides in what was previously an unrealistic PDK repair.

Most likely, I’ll enjoy the car for another year or two, wait for prices to stabilize, then trade for a MT car (hopefully GT at that point).

-install clutch pedal and oil line 2day
-wiring 1day

56 Hours at $150-200/hour shop rates in CA $8,000 - $11,000 + in labor. Trade your PDK for the cost of a MT, plus misc parts it's def an ambitious project. If you had the know how to DIY, it would make for cool content and maybe even worthwhile.

Interesting topic ! Right now the risks of failure and costs of replacement are probably similar due to the similarity of the internals (remember the reverse light switch we're all under extended warranty for now? affected both).
I was listening to a PCA video on youtube, and they stated that the transmission was the same. However, as you point out, there are obviously differences with the actual shifter and other nuances.

Yes, it is my understanding that the PDK and MT are identical. The difference in the shift linkage/actuators. The shift linkage is some kind of weird magic to manipulate the double shift forks in the PDK. In the 997's the 6 speed was a dedicated tranny and so was the PDK. I guess Porsche decided to save money by using a single transmission. Very creative with the shift linkage and in theory, should make the swap easier.

They are DEF NOT interchangeable nor the same transmission, the MT is BASED on the PDK, but the unit itself is pretty different. Kinda like how an M4 competition is based on a 428. Same chassis but many different parts bolted on.
