Default 991.2 GTS Wheel Width and ET?

I have been looking for a second set of 20" wheels...affordable would be nice. Off to Tire Rack to look into what O.Z. had to offer for a 991.2 GTS in 20". They have several options offered in 8.5" to 9" wide fronts and 11" to 11.5" rears with ET for the front from 50mm to 55mm and rear ETs from 50 to 52mm. Somewow the rear ET didn't seem quite right, so off to the Owners Manual I went.

SUMMER TIRES 991.2 GTS From 991.2 991.2 Owners Manual (Center Locks)

Option 1 (I hope I don't have this width and ET set up, am checking, perhaps this is the spec for the "optional" five (5) lugs) on the GTS
Front Axle 245/35/ZR 20 91Y
8.5J x 20, RO (ET) 49
Rear Axle 305/30/ZR20 (103Y)XL
11.5j x 20, RO (ET) 56

Option 2 (I hope I have this set up, for the sake of argument, let's assime this is the case.)
Front Axle 245/35/ZR 20 91Y
9J x 20, RO (ET) 51 I think is what is on my caram double checking
Rear Axle 305/30/ZR20 (103Y)XL
12j x 20, RO (ET) 63 I think is what is on my car… am double checking

So in the process of contrasting the wheels widths and ET in Option 2 compared to the wheel offerings from O.Z. got me to thinking,
why would I invest in O.Z. wheels if I would be losing 1/2" to 1" in front and rear front wheel witdth, and the rear ET copared to stock would be off
by over 11mm?

Maybe I am making a "mountain out of a mole hill" as is said, and if O.Z. represents their wheels to fit a 2017 991.2 GTS, I shoud just
take them at their word, and accept their specs? Perhaps, my comparison of the most desirable (To me) front wheel width (9") and (12") rear and
corresponding rear ET (63mm) is simply of no consequence? I choose not to believe this.

It's my money, and I am very reluctant to spend close to $3,000 on a set of O.Z.s (delivered) to find out if fitment is optimal, as good as, or better than stock as descrived above in Option 2.. For the present, I'll just stick with stock 9" front and 12" rears. I will be keeping my eye out for a set of stock 991.2 GTS 9" front and 12" rear wheels. That should keep me busy, and while I am at it, I might as well look for a set of "hen's teeth", equally rare!

Are you looking for a 2nd set for the track? You may want to check the classifieds here. There are regularly sets of CL wheels up there for decent prices.

wheels if I would be losing 1" in wheel witdth, and the rear ET would be off by over 11mm? Am I making a moot comparison of the
most desirable wheel width (12") and corresponding ET (63mm)? Just sayin........

If your car had Option 1 it would be very obvious. the 5 Lug option on .1 is ridiculous and wheels are no where near flush like the CL wheels.

On .2 cars, I am pretty certain that option 2 is what is widely optioned but depends on what wheel design you have

My .1 has the Carrera classics from 4S and they are the slimmer 20x8.5 and 20x11. I hate how they look Vs my previous .1 GTS with CL.

Hope this helps

I have a 991.2 2018 Targa 4 GTS, your listed Option #2 is my wheel size on stock CLs.

When purchasing a set of dedicated winter wheel/tires, I documented the following:
Porsche OEM Winter wheel set listed as the following wheel/tire fitment:
Front 20x8.5, +51mm Offset
245/35R20
Rear 20x11, +59mm Offset
295/30R20

After studying the heck out of the situation at the time, I was confident and went with a winter wheel setup of O.Z. Ultraleggera wheels, with winter tires:
Front 20x9,+49mm Offset
245/35R20
Rear 20x11, +50mm Offset
295/30R20

I don't have an apples to apples comparison for performance, because these are summer vs winter setups, and I've only done AX and DE on summer tires, but judging from my performance street driving, 😆, the car feels and handles better with the winter setup which includes two late winter (early March) trips Boston, MA to Charleston, SC (could be my feeling of the softer rubber compound on the winter tires).

In terms of size/fitment: the front wheels are pretty close to stock (identical wheel size options from O.Z. with unnoticeable 2mm offset difference), and for the rear wheels, note 1" converts to about 25 mm, so, having a 1" slimmer wheel means: 1/2 inch less sticking out on the inner wheel lip and 1/2 inch less sticking out on the outer wheel lip (the side you will see on the exterior wheel well). However, having an offset difference of 13 mm less (that is, the wheel would be pulled out to the exterior 13 mm), makes up for the 1/2" inch slimmer exterior wheel lip. So at the end, the wheels sit pretty much identical to where the stock wheels' exterior sit aligning in comparison with the rocker panels. The 1" slimmer wheels (as long as you reduce the offset accordingly) results in losing the 1" of additional "traction" on what would have been the inner lip of the stock slightly-thicker wheels. I haven't felt any negative performance, and as mentioned, believe the car feels/handles better.

Hope this helps.
Safe Driving!

Appreciate the suggestion: Agree, APEX is coming with Center Locks, 20" tall, and front width of 9" and rear width or 12". These are the Factory Specs for the stock 991.2 GTS wheels...BUT, the off set appears all wrong. Both the APEX VS5RS and EC7RS models have theri ET at 47mm. Factory spec for a 20" wheel for the 991.2 GTS is as follows:
Front: 51mm
Rear: 63 mm

The fronts would probably work, maybe?, but I wonder about the 47mm rear ET, some 16mm off.

I have a line on a stock set of 2018 GTS wheels, this looks to be the way I am headed...not cheap, BUT these wheels are 991.2 GTS wheels, correct widths and offsets.

ET47 on the rear is perfect for the GTS, very common wheel size. Makes it nice and flush.
I dont think you are going to beat the value of the Apex wheels. I have a set of their 19's on the way for my GTS. Maybe they will run another group buy for the 20's

1"=25mm, you are talking about pulling the wheel out to the exterior just over half an inch (compared to stock). Which if even noticeable to the naked eye, would make the car appear with a little more aggressive stance.

Default All good stuff, ....

Appreciate the input. Allow me to vent a bit. I have had numerous sets of O.Z. wheels mounted up various Porsche cars. Had the experience of buying them new and selling them used. When it was time to sell a set, for whatever reason, I observed, in spite of their quality, and certified by the tire shop as straight and true, I took a beating in the resale market. Maybe I am just a sucker for the first solid cash offer that came along, but $0.50 on the $1.00 categorizes my "hit".

I priced out a set of O.Z. Ultra Leggera (Flow Forged?) wheels from Tire Rack, add in the TPMS, $3,432 a set, then on top of that CA sales tax (Free Freight!!), I am looking at $3,698.

I think I can buy a set of used, stock 991.2 GTS wheels, albeit more, for $4,000 to $5,000 net/net delivered. For the extra $$$, I would get a Forged Wheel, 1" wider wheel in the rear compoared to O.Z., Factory front and rear offsets, 51mm and 63mm respectively. When the time comes to sell these wheels off, I suspect, based on preliminary research, I will capture a greater %age of my initial "investment", but then again, maybe not. I need to do more research....used 20" center lock mareket not that plentiful.

One source I found, Sunset Porsche, in Oregon, discounted to $7,900 delivered including sales tax...have to pop for TPMS, at least $225 for four from Tire Rack...so about $8,100 ...

Forgeline about $7,300 + tax @. .0775 TPMS $225 + Cebter Caps about $200...$8,200ish

I do love those APEX wheels, and their lifetine damage replacement policy is surely tempting. $3,996, add in TPMS and center cap cost, add in .0775 CA sales Tax, and possible shipping costs. Without shipping $4,737....Not that bad, probaby go this way if they were availablew, BUT, I'd like to have the wheels now, and don't wish to wait until sometime in the summer. They sure do look beautiful. I'd probably go this way, if they were available, but this is not the case.

There are wheel 20" GTS fitment available from Europe, god only knows when they'd get her...$4,000ish....but tough to nail down the final price tag, VAT tax? US Customs? Shipplin? Recourse should there be a problem? No Euro wheels for me.

Wish me luck on what may turn out to be, a difficult decision.

Default Decision made...

I went with a set of 20" 991.2 GTS Center Locks that I stumbled upon, actually the seller contacted me...based on this thread, or perhaps another of my ramblings on Rennlist. He has been on Rennlist for a while, had 100 or so posts...talked to him on the phone...he sent me copious pics of the wheels inside and out,, a pic of his 2018 Carrera GTS, and had the wheels spun up at my request, to be certain they are straight and true, and they are.

The wheels wern't cheap, but they are OEM Porsche GTS forged Center Locks...correct offset of course. And deep in my heart, a 9" front wheel paired with a 12" rear wheels....looks so damn awesome on a 991.2 GTS car. Another thing, buying from a private seller, I avoided CA Sales tax, .0775 %. Dodgng the sales tax saved me some money, and they came with TPMS, this saves at least another $200.. I sure do like to rationalize. I wanted what I got, and I got what I wanted.

Once I had the dimensions and weights of the four (4) boxes the seller was to be shipping them in, I went on to the www.pirateship.com web site, got my shipping costs, about $350 from Philly to San Diego......and THE cost to insure each box, then created UPS labels that I sent to the seller electronically. All he had to do was print out the labels on his end, slap the labels on the boxes and drop them off at the UPS store. They shipped today and I am to receive them next week. BTW, I also checked ShipNerd, prices were similar.

  • I went with Forgeline. They custom make them for your car either the correct offsets and are hub-centric.
  • you also get max widths
  • om my Carrera T I have
  • 9x20 front
  • 12x20 rears
  • alao among the lightest and strongest
  • And great looking!
