Default 991.1 Suspension Refresh

After 2 years and 20,000 miles of tough living/driving for the 911 in the NYC area, I’ve finally capitulated and purchased a new, possibly more suitable daily driver to battle the city’s incompetent drivers and terrible roads. My 991.1 has held up very well despite everything– unfortunately over the last few weeks a taxi pulled into the side of it damaging the rear bumper and ¾ panel, a garage attendant overrevved it when cold triggering a check engine light (garage situations are sometimes unavoidable here unfortunately – code was P13A1), and the road surfaces are hardly surfaced at all, accelerating the wear of…everything. It’s time to give the car a vacation from the city, some fresh suburban air and a little much needed TLC. At 82k miles, the car doesn’t ride quite as compliantly (if firmly) as it used to when I first got it. What would fellow rennlister’s recommend to freshen up the suspension and bring back some of the spark at this point in its lifetime? The car still feels great generally speaking, but the suspension is quite a bit more crashy than it used to be on all but the smoothest surfaces. If I were to replace/update a few items, what would be top of the list? Shocks? Bushings? DSC controller? Car is a 991.1 C4S – no PASM sport, just regular.

take a look at the various suspension bushings to see if they need replacement. small amount of wear on these (including compression) can result in less firmness.

Porsche doesn't always sell bushings separately, but I have seen threads of guys who found the OEM manufactures of the bushings and ordered them from europe. Porsche wants you to buy the entire suspension components with the bushing installed. They probably assume it just saves you money in labor.

Just an FYI, I live here in SoCal and I have 92k miles on my car and had my suspension checked during my last service and all the control arms and bushings were tight with zero play, so definitely have your shop do a nice shake test in the air with your entire suspension as your bushing may still be solid.

I found these items in the market place:

B16's Damptronics

DSC

I have both of these and they transform the car, not sure if those prices are appropriate for used items so you may need to research, but they will def be a nice upgrade and the best option for a mostly street car with the occasional track day.

Very helpful - thank you! I have a service appointment to address the check engine light in a week or so, will have them check for play then. I've had my eye on a DSC controller for a while as well. And if the shocks ARE shot, the B16s look like a solid option.

For me it's a vanity thing. Based on what I read on their install instructions, there is a 10mm range of preload to work with for the suspension to work as designed. Even on their lowest recommended setting is SPASM ride height. I just cannot wheel gap LOL
