991.1 S model air filter question
i have been advised to use only OEM air filters. As others can cause issues with engine sensors. Comment on experiences using after market air filters such as K&N. I read somewhere these were excellent but the comment of engine sensors has kept me from using. Also as i recall K&N increased HP by 5 HP but i have my doubts this is true.

My understanding is that people generally way over oil k&N filters, which causes the problem of screwing up sensors like the MAF

AFE
I have had good luck with AFE dry filters. You buy a bottle of the cleaner and the filter is no longer a consumable. I would be happy if I did not lose any HP.

Porsches (911s) dont really have traditional MAFs
Secondly, Porsche delivers GT3 RS cars with BMC Oiled air filters, If it is good enough to be standard equipment on a GT3 RS, I think our cars will be ok as well

I'm running the GT3RS factory filters on my GTS, which are BMC filters and I did have to modify the two small snap in covers on the top section of the air box. You can also purchase the filters through BMC or other retailers for about half the price of what Porsche charges and they are just slightly different and will likely be a better plug and play option. In terms of any difference in performance or sound, at WOT I perceive the engine to be a little throatier, but it could also just be perception. The filter is proven to improve airflow and slightly increase HP, but the downside is you'll need to service it sooner than the regular 30k mile schedule for the stock paper filter. I'll likely recharge then at 12k-15k miles depending on the types of roads I end up driving on.

The part of the airbox which the factory GT3RS BMC filter presses against. Easily fixed by slightly modifying the cover.
