Default years for 991.1 and 991.2

Hello All,

I hope you all are doing well. This forums is amazing with very knowledgeable and helpful members. I have been learning a lot and hope to continue to learn. I have two simple questions I was hoping someone could help me out with as I was not able to get a clear answer doing a quick google search (1 site says one thing another site says something else...Porsche's CPO website seems to show 991.2 starting in 2017, but when I google 991.2 it says 2016).

I was wanting to know what years did the 991.1 cover and what years did the 991.2 cover. I know, silly question, I am sorry. I was under the impression that the 991.2 started in 2017. Is that accurate? Is there any significant advantages to getting the 991.2 over the 991.1? Many on this forum have stated to try to get the newest car you can get within your budget. Based off of that advice I have been only looking at 2017 and newer but many are either black (trying to avoid that color or are close to $100k). I have seen some low milage 2014 through 2016s (all CPOs) for a nice price but was't sure how they stacked up to the 2017 and new cars.

Any help or info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!!

All USA spec 991.2’s are 17-19…991 12-16.

991 NA engines for the Carreras - bit less hp, arguably more fun, redline brings smiles. wayyy better sounds coming from the motor.

991.2 turbo motors for the Carreras - more HP, torque comes on sooner, turbo sounds, Interior / exterior bits updated. Tunable.

Really comes down to engine choice primarily followed by some aesthetics and creature comforts.

There’s countless threads on this and my answer is not definitive - good luck on your search! Suggest perusing some of the recent threads on pricing, as the market is a bit nuts right now for used 911’s.

As others have said, you can’t really go wrong per se. Find some cars you like and take them for a test drive or two. You’ll know what motor is right for you once you experience for yourself.

European model years and US model years are different. Hence the differing google answers - both correct.

I found these words to be so true. If you ask people’s opinions, everyone will have one for what makes sense to them, where they are in life, how they see themselves using the car, etc. When my search began for my first 911 C2S back in the summer of 2019, I wasn't sure which one I wanted. I could have ordered a 992, but decided against it, again for reasons that made sense to me. It's a great car, even had a go in one at the PECLA, but just not for me.

So when it came down to the .1 or .2, I drove both. After spending time with both, there were no doubts at all in my mind which one I would look to purchase. I really believe if you give yourself some time, drive both, think about how you will use the car in your life, the engine and driving dynamics of one will rise above the other, making the answer as plain as day. Best of luck and enjoy the hunt!

Do you want better performance (quicker, more accessible power) and the capability to add 100hp for $1500 or do you want more soul? A million threads on the forum spouting the bias' of each individual...almost totally based on the version they own. I have a 991.2 (base) and while I really love the car I do wish it had that NA feel and sound. That said I would not trade for a .1 but would get a GT3 if the prices were not INSANE.

I would do some research and try to find a way to test drive both to see what tickle's your fancy.

For me, I think the 991.2 would make the most sense for me just because the power is right there when I need it and just makes it easier to drive around town. That being said, everyone talks about the great sound of the 991.1 and a big part of buying a sports car is the sound. I agree that I should drive both, what is unfortunate in the times we live right now, both Porsche dealerships in my area don't have any 911s lol. All they have are Macas, so I will have to wait on the test drives for now, As I am not in a rush to buy a car right now is a good thing as the prices of used cars is extremely high.

Want to thank you all for your input on this. It is nice to see that I was not going crazy when I saw different dates for 991.1s and 991.2...I did not realize they differed between euro and the US.
