Question Door interior pulling away on 991 Cabriolet

New here -- tried to search for an existing thread but didn't see one (apologies if I missed it).

I noticed a couple folks note this issue in the "Common 991 Repairs/Issues thread" but there wasn't too much detail.

I'm looking at a 2014 991 and on both driver and passenger doors the interior is starting to "pull away" a bit from the door where it meets the window. I've heard a few different responses to this: (1) it's an issue with black interior 911s; (2) it's an issue with black interiors on all cars; (3) it's an issue on all black interior convertibles; and (4) it's a design flaw on 991s.

Are folks having this experience in their cabs (or coupes?)? Trying to determine how much to care, because other than this the car is great and I'd like to purchase it.

Apparently all Porsche sports cars from this generation that do not have full leather interior are subject to this failure. There's a shop in Tampa (Pedro's garage) that has pioneered a relatively cheap repair for this. It does require that you remove the door panels and ship them to him. He will repair and ship back promptly. Do a search as there is a long thread with much more detail.

Coupe or chop top does not matter, its equal opportunity. Interior color doesn't matter either. It seems to happen less often on cars with leather door cards. Not sure why other then they are built slight differently, maybe the leather takes more of the heat abuse rather then the material directly below the leather?

Its not a cheap fix, for the non leather doors there is a place that can fix them, but to replace you are looking at 2.5-4k for both. Not sure what the door cards cost these days and what their availability look like. Gluing it back on your own could be risky because there is an airbag down there. Pretty sure CPO still covers this fix.

Search for "warping" under advanced search and specify the "991" subforum and you'll find lots of posts on the subject. That's the most common way it's described.

I've heard mixed comments about CPO covering the door panel issue. That said, I had both of my door panels replaced under CPO warranty without any hassle.

I had mine looked at last month. Waiting a decision from higher headquarters now.

new panels will also do that, same environment friendly glue that fails...
So budget for it - either $3000-5000 for factory, or $500-1000 for Pedro. Not a show stopper for a DIYer, but annoying for someone without a garage or time or inclination.

Very common. Mine was replaced a few months back under CPO warranty. Here are a few links about this issue...

First post so apologies if the formatting is wonky.

I had my door panels replaced under CPO last month right before my warranty expired. Hendrick Porsche in Charlotte got it approved.

Good Luck!

Does this mean Pedro can't repair the leather-covered door panels? It is still possible for leather panels to come unglued. It just seems to be less common, for whatever reason.

Yes, we can repair them. In fact, I’ve done a few. Call me if you have any questions 954-385-0330

Happy Porsche’ing,
Pedro

Do you deal with Canadians? i'm a bit scared of shipping my door cards across the border twice.
