In June, I sold my 2018 GT350 for what I paid for it brand new. Loved the car, but couldn't resist the chance to sell it during this crazy market. Decided I wanted a Cayman GTS 4.0. Started shopping in July, but unable to find one with options I desired, plus dealers marking them way up. I tried to order. My build was $116k. I sent it to multiple dealers. Only local Porsche dealer willing to let me have an allocation said they would sell me the allocation for $15,000! Told them no.
I test drove a 2021 Boxster GTS 4.0 with almost no options and 1,100 miles. VIN Analytics showed MSRP was $102k, but the dealer wanted $129k. If the Boxster had the options I wanted (Burmester audio, GTS pkg, 18-way seat, sport steering wheel, etc...), maybe I would've made an offer.
I noticed Carrera GTS prices were not as crazy. I expanded my searches to include the Carrera GTS, but really had no plans to ever own a 911. I stumbled upon a CPO'd 2016 Carrera GTS at a dealer within an hour drive. It had all of the interior options I had in my Cayman build specs, plus more options that I found appealing, had only 24,000 miles, and was listed in mid $120s. I made an offer and the Porsche dealer accepted...I was stunned. Showed my wife what I was getting vs what I had been trying to get...she agreed this made more sense. VIN Analytics shows this car's MSRP was $144k in 2016. Has Burmester, GTS pkg, 18-way seats, sport steering wheel, glass sunroof, Porsche stripes on side, carbon fiber interior trim, etc... I think I got a good deal considering the current market.
