Default Please help. Clicking sound with video.

2015 911S rear passenger side clicking sound. It gets louder as I approach the rear wheel well. I haven't noticed it before because the muffler is so loud now it's louder at idle after I warm up the car. Hope is nothing serious. Any thoughts ?

I really don't drive much maybe few times a month. That's why I never really notice until today when I am just warming it up and standing behind the car. I just took it in to Porsche for a recall. (Transmission software update) and ironically now I am hearing this. Wtf. Worried sick something they did messed the car up.

Ticking & clacking noises are sometimes normal at startup and until the car has gotten up to operating temp in my experience. Yours seems a bit louder than usual. I know you said you warmed up the car, but have you driven it around a bit (for maybe about 5-10 minutes)? If the noise persists even after getting up to temperature, I'd bring it back and let them know this is a new noise that started after the transmission software update. But that's just me. Hard to truly diagnose from a video but it sounds like the lifters maybe.

Lifter tick. Drive it gently for a few miles and it should go away. Look into an oil change, consider a heavier oil. Many threads on this.

I don't drive the car at all. I just warm it up in my garage without moving it and this is the first time I notice the noise. I never notice the noise before the tranny update btw which is why i am puzzled. Assuming the lifter is the issue, why would it happen all of a sudden after I bring it in to Porsche because I never heard this loud click before even after it's warm. I will drive it around tomorrow to see if it persist.

BTW how much does a lifter job cost at Porsche ?

I just got a oil change two months ago and since then only drove th car 3 times.. I would have to say that I changed the oil type from a performance brand to what Porsche recommended for the first time don't know if that has anything to do with it but u have a point. I am using oem mobile 1 now but for previous 2 years the car was using motul 5w40. Not sure if that has anything to do with it ? For the first time i swapped it out with mobile 1 0w40

I've had this happen a handful of times. Like others said drive it gently for a few miles and it will go away once the oil is warm and hydraulic lifters get refilled.

You likely don't need anything done to the engine other than drive it more often. Also you need to get the engine up to operating temp over an extended period of time to evaporate any gasoline that has gotten into the engine.

This has been brought up as a thing with direct injection engines on this forum. Also may need to do oil changes at a shorter interval.

Either drive the car or let it sit. Idling it up to temperature over and over is awful for the engine.

This. My car sits for a few weeks at a time as well, and I would notice some loud valvetrain noise. It would go away after warmed up. I changed my oil about a month ago to M1 5w50 and it substantially quieted down the motor.

I always thought warming it up without driving is better than just letting it sit. Guess I'm wrong. Loll

Absolutely not.

Take it for a spin and get everything up to temp to burn off any moisture that might have accumulated.
