This is what I use.

You do not use the torque attachment to loosen. I use a breaker bar.

Here is a vid with explanation - skip to 3:50 where he starts to talk about frictional loss. I wonder how the Renntorque accounts for the frictional loss since it is a range (10 -20%) and not exact.

Anyone tried this? Seems like a much more affordable version of the RENNtorq tool.

I'm gonna say that the lever is not deep enough to engage the wheel spokes. Once you put the CL socket on the nut, this tool will stand off too far.

And you also have an unknown amount of torque actually applied to the nut with all these multiplier tools. The multiplication factor varies with the torque applied. You should at least calibrate the multiplier at around the torque you wish to apply. You can measure the actual torque applied to the nut with a strain gauge tool. Like
this this
one.

Excellent point.

The reaction arm on this tool is far too narrow to be used with our wheels at 440 lbs*ft or more when removing.

The end of that steel arm will likely leave you with a nice divet/dent in your beautiful aluminum or magnesium wheel (even with the thin rubber coating on it).

The RENNtorq has a large, relatively soft, polymer barrel which makes contact with the wheel which prevents this from happening. The barrel deforms a bit as you add torque, spreading the load, to make sure you don't do any damage to the wheel.

...not when you take the time to apply grease correctly. CLs are def. slower than 5 lug. I could use my air impact on my 5 lugs and be done in no time at all. Hate my centerlocks for that reason.

I feel for this guy...... Not sure if you gents seen this video. 2K torque wrench seams cheap investment to this alternative. Hope he recovers his loss.

Wowza! That is some story!

The guy says they were tightened to 45 lb-ft being hand tight. I don’t think you can get to 45 lb-ft just with your hands. Maybe the tire shop dude looked up the spec and saw the 450 lb-ft and thought nah, that’s a typo, it’s got to be 45!

I think the main moral of the story is don’t take your centerlock wheels to any old neighborhood tire store!
