Default 20 inch wheels or 21 inch wheels??

I know that it’s been up before but I am looking at a BC forged wheel that had the similar style of classic 300’s. Essentially the augmented center multi spoke mesh style inners with step lip outers.

I am about to pull the trigger as it’s a 6-7 week wait at a minimum and an additional 3 weeks out on tires.

I can go 20 inch and have it by the end of the year, save money and also keep the ride and performance of my car.

The 21 inch wheels (however) look so much better and since I likely will never be tracking my car I thought the aesthetic look was as important to me as function. I also like having a little more lip to give it some aggressive offsets and make the wheel not look small.

Has anyone regretted the 21 inch decision?? Is the performance and ride that much worse?

I don’t have experience with 21s on this platform but I have them on my wife’s glk-her suv allows bigger sidewalls to soak up the bumps and it was still noticeably rougher. Someone I know had hre 21s on their 991.2 and they ended up cracking a few barrels…could be coincidence but I think with the smaller sidewalls it doesn’t leave much room for rough patches or potholes. Yes, even in Florida there are patches here and there. I would stick with 20 inches personally.

It’s just an opinion, but I actually dislike how the 21” rears look on the 992 non-GT models. There’s a certain point at which the wheel sizes start overwhelming the overall appearance of the car. I think the 991/991.2 non-GT models have a better visual balance at the rear with 20” wheels than do the 992s with their 21s. For some reason, the 991.2 GT models look okay with the 21” at the rear.

But if you like how 21’s look, and can live with the increase in harshness of the ride and risk of cracking a wheel, go for it. Doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks.

I greatly appreciate the feedback because it’s just me speaking to myself in this man cave with a scotch in my hand - my wife doesn’t want to even know about this stuff.

I am on the fence. I think it looks better honestly with 21 inch wheels and that’s about it - if everything else is a con vs a pro, then that’s an easier decision.

I was thinking doing 20 in front and 21 in the rear but it still will lose the performance of a NA car.

I think after some of your comments - I will go aggressive on offsets and tire fitment with 20’s and lower the car enough to make them look bigger.

Stick with the 20s. The wheels will add enough extra weight, even if they are forged. More material, more weight. The 21s will looks a bit too big, my opinion, and you will notice the decrease in acceleration. Here are my BC forged wheels in 20s and lowered on TechArt. For me they fill in the car nicely. The wheels are flush to the fenders, front and rear. Hope this helps with your decision.

For wheels, I stayed with stock 20x9 up front and 20x12 rears with oem size tires, 245/35 and 305/30 rears. I went with Michelin Pilots Sport 4S tires. Could’ve went with 315 rears, which I’ll probably move to once the rears need to be replaced. It’s subtle, but the wheel centers are royal gold.

Ok - I have 315’s on my rears right now and thought maybe i could squeeze 325’s back there on the 20 inch wheels. I have the ps4’s as well and love them.

Well…I can concur that after seeing that and looking at around 100K posts and videos that it makes no sense to make my GTS have 21 inch wheels. Even though they will look good and be the favorite at a car show; the functionality and performance is to much to give up. Not to mention the 20 inch wheels on NJ991’s car looks about perfect.

Hopefully will have this project wrapped up soon to share all the new photos.

Love the look of these wheels and the overall stance of your vehicle. Nicely done!

I think you can fit 325s, with a slightly less aggressive offset. I think 315s are perfect for the car. Looking forward to seeing what you get and the end product. I’m sure it’ll look amazing.

These cars already ride hard enough. I’d go with 20s.

Hey Nj991!

How did you land at the correct offsets?

I was going to go 20x12 et 46 in the rears and 20x9 et36 front.

i just read that the offers are different between 99.1 vs 991.2 GTS’s - so I don’t want to get stuck with not enough out to much offsets.

Will likely go 315’s and 255’s as you suggested

As far as offsets,I reached out to Nemesis Autosport and they sourced the wheels for me. Ive used them for my previous 991.1 and a few other Audis I've owned, great customer service. He contacted BC Forged directly and they suggested the offsets based on what I was looking for. Originally, i went back and asked for a more aggressive offset for the rears, and they came back with 20x12 ET47 or 46, and it's perfect, with a drop. Like you mentioned, the 991.1 and 991.2 GTS offsets are slightly different. If you want, PM me your email address and I'll put you in touch with my guy over at Nemesis and I'm sure he can reach out to BC Forged and send you over offsets.

NJ991 - you are the man and super helpful!! I also want to say thanks to others here!

I spoke to a shop whom I ordered the wheels from and they did the same. Contacted BC and they suggested the offsets you mentioned.

I ended up going with 20x9 et40 and 20x12 et46

i am going with 255’s front and 315’s rear as I wanted a touch more tire on the road. I already have 315’s on my stock wheels but wished I had gotten 255 in the front. Will have a decent meaty tire look without being to crazy.

Bought the DSC and will likely go with H&R vtf coils or spend the extra 2k for b16’s. I read some where the B16’s ride better but do not drop the car as much as the H&R’s.
