991.1 Product Ideas
#46
Here are some random thoughts. 1) Some sort of a custom brake caliper holder specifically for the 991.1S with the 6-piston front calipers. Same for the rear 4-piston calipers. I've tried several after market hooks/brackets and none of them work well. Bungy cords also don't work well. The best thing I've found is an Igloo cooler that allows me to prop that 6-piston caliper just about right to make it easier changing brake pads. You need someone who has done a few brake jobs to show you why its so awkward. 2) While you are at the brake caliper holder, what's the best tool to separate the connectors? They are always a pain. Is there something better? 3) Agree with the lower cost Apple CarPlay option. 4) Simple backup camera retrofit for less than $250? 5) Front radiator fin straightening tool. 6) How about a simple organizer for the front frunk Porsche insert. Keep stuff separated and from moving around 7) A battery maintainer charger wire harness/fastener kit that works with CTEK battery maintainer. I've connected directly to the battery but with the CTEK jumper cords I have to route it out through the cover each time I store the 911. The kit would include the nuts/fasteners to directly wire to the battery, recommended wire routing, the harness and a connector spot near the top of the hood that allows you to connect/disconnect without opening the hood. Needs to be hidden. Basically a simple kit with all the parts. Top kit would include the buyers choice of which charger. 8) Door sill protector for the door sill and the plastic trim just inboard of it. Is there an easily applied protective film that can be removed? Mine seem to get scuffed up. 9) A better bracket and more durable system for the engine compartment lid opening latch. That round ball in the latch and the weak bracket will ultimately lead to an engine compartment lid being stuck closed. (like mine)

991 dashes peel back. If you could make a piece of trim that could screw down and then have another piece snap over it to cover the screws it might stop the process and look good too.
Done right, it seems it could look stock.
**edited** to add…. I’m no engineer and have no clue if this would even work.

I am Far from a purist but isn't a lot of what is being asked misplaced and odd. Imagine if folks added aftermarket 991 lights and engine grills on a 997? Or 997 tail lights, engine grills on a 996?
would that work? I dont know if I would want to drive a car that is trying to up-generation itself by adding parts from newer models/generation
Just my .02 cents
Looking forward to what rennline comes up with

Fair opinion. I can't speak for anyone else, but 991.1 to 991.2 is not a big change cosmetically. It's not the same as moving from a real gen 996>997>991>992. Just because I prefer the engine lid on a 991.2 or 991.1 GT3/GTS, doesn't mean I want to pose as the newer model. It's not worth trading the whole car for a minor cosmetic upgrade. It's more about individualizing the car or else it looks like every other 911 on the road. People change their rims, add carbon fiber, black out the badges, etc. Changing the engine lid is no different. In fact, it's still of the same generation, just a different spec. No one is trying to change their badge from a 2CS to GT3.
understood, fair point

I would like to purchase a Porsche dash badge reproduction from the 356 series for my 991. Doesn't have to be the same size, but otherwise in the exact same design of the gold metal saying 'PORSCHE' sandwiched between the two offset horizontal bars. This would be a nostalgic connection to the early Porsches. It would fit on a flat area in the location of the glove box.
