Default Chip in sunroof

Was driving a while back on some nice backroads. Then got a little lost and decided to go on highway. Driving along and just enjoying the car and I suddenly see a rock coming towards my passenger side. NNNNNNOOOOOOO! Well, it didn’t hit the windshield so that’s good. I don’t know if it was luck or the airflow over the windshield but the rock cleared the black painted plastic section in front of the sunroof. It did hit the glass sunroof and took a tiny irregular chip out of it. Not big at all. But the sunroof looks like black glass and the chip is whitish.

Any recommendations to make this look better and kind of go away? Thanks

Sharpie. Seriously. Worth a try. I have touched up many black surfaces and the sharpie saves the day.

Post a pic if you can, but you may want to try Safelite, or whoever the dealer uses, to fill the chip so that it doesn't get larger and also will look better.

Thought of a marker. Black Sharpie seems to be black on paper but then purple on most other things. Someone I spoke with recommended a wool cone tip that could be put in a rotary tool with some glass polish.

Maybe I’ll just leave it alone. Seems easier.

Worth a chat with them. I’ve seen windshield chip corrections when they inject something into the chip. That might be over kill. Worth a call though.

Maybe some epoxy finishing resin with some black coloring? Fill the chip, let it cure thoroughly and then wet sand with 1000 - 3000 grit. then polish. Just a thought.

Correct, it stops the chip from spreading further.

This. So much this.

If you can live with knowing your P-car has been touched up by a lowly $1.39 Sharpie that likely only you will notice, then this is 100% the way to do it.

The fear of turning purple is real though, particularly with UV exposure, so you might be touching up the touchup annually when it becomes obvious.

I guess a trip to the art supplies store would be worth while. Can test a few for an actual black marker. Someone said that it should be a paint marker. I know zilch about markers. Will report back if decide to touch up with some type of marker. Or just don’t look there and fugetaboutit.

If you take white polishing compound it should dull the edges which produce the white marks. Had some debris put some bad grooves in my Q5. I used this method to greatly improve it. Luckily for me it is not in my line of sight. It will take some work though
