Default .2 40k Service Spark Plugs

I got busy (and lazy), and paid Porsche of Colorado Springs to do the 40k-4 year service. My car has only 22k miles, but I have owned it for 5.5 years. I figured it was time enough, even though I did not drive it much during 2020.

Anyway, I asked them to keep the old plugs for me. They show no obvious wear, and only a bit of what might be some corrosion on the threads. For reference, I drive mostly open roads--almost no in-town driving.

Looks alright. If anything the gap may be a bit large, perhaps measure that? I know a few of mine were at the wide end of spec or beyond after the exact maintenance interval when I did them (3yr + 30k, or whatever)

Sure yeah, that. It had been 30k + 4 years then on mine. I just remember that it lined up so perfectly, it was nice.

Unless you're talking about OP, in which case he did 5.5 years?

I replaced the plugs on my 991.1 C2S last weekend. It wasn't as hard as I had anticipated, took me about three hours from start to finish. .1 and .2 must be using different plugs.

Yes, the .2 uses different plugs than the .1. Single ground electrode and a 12 point socket.

Looks to be running perfect!!! Mine is a 2012.5 with 12,000 miles and I was thinking of doing it as well but talking with the Porsche dealer and they said I should wait until closer to 20K to have them done. Only thing they said I should do now is the break fluid. $326 to do it.

Did you take the wheels off? What about the back bumper and the airbox? Can I just jack up the car on two jack stands in the rear and do this?

Paid my local Porsche dealer (Reeves Tampa) $636 in March to replace the plugs on my '17 C2 at 28.8K miles. It just wasn't something I was interested in doing myself.

Porsche's recommended spark plug intervals are very conservative. I assume the plugs have platinum or iridium tips. They probably would be good for at least 60,000 miles. The intervals are short for emissions reasons.
Many cars these days have recommended intervals for spark plugs of 100,000 miles.

The plugs are generally never 'bad' (as in a burned off electrode, center or tapered) its the potential of the threaded portion seizing up in block that warrants the time based change. My guess is because the tires are really close to a flat engine and while its pretty well sealed because of the coil pack the environment of hot engine, colder water or snow getting kicked up near by creates a pretty hostile environment versus a V-x engine where the plugs are up top and away from the surrounding area.

Yes, the car was on quickjack with wheels off. Had my helper taking the wheels off for me. I also did the coil while I was in there and clean all four wheel well. I didn't need to take the bumper off. You can do the plugs with the the back on jack stand, I would also put the wheels under the car as insurance. This job isn't hard. I find it harder doing the plugs on my LS 460, especially the #7.

Helper

C2S driver side plugs

LS 460 plugs

Driver side with new plug & coil installed

Soooooooo much more room in there than my 996 when I changed the plugs/coils! Those pics just made my decision for me. Thank you! I'll hit up Pelican soon and get them started this way. Did you guys have any symptoms before you changed that resolved? I have the slightest rough idle on warmup but this is my first 991 so I don't know how abnormal it is. 2014 Carrera S.

Debo sends.
