Default Free exhaust MOD

Hi everyone! I recently sold my 981 and bought a 991.1 GTS. However I really miss the loud sound of the exhaust in the 981 which sounded much louder than the 911 outside. One of the mods that I did to my 981 was the “free exhaust” mod, which as you may know, it is just moving the clamp/sleeve in between the mufflers to open a gap creating a low freq throatier sound.

Has anyone tried doing the same to the 911? I see the 911 has two of these sleeves/clamps at each side of the center muffler as highlighted in the picture below. I can’t find any posts on this, but can’t believe I’m the first one to have thought about it. Thanks!

haha thanks but not quite the same. Won’t get the same sound (in fact I have the vacuum lines disconnected to get the PSE at all times in all the rev range)

Soot all over the place, additional heat blown into the engine and components and the sound is most likely awful.

Reminds me of the "washer mod" that Subaru kids used to do.

But isn’t somehow similar to bypassing the side mufflers? At least in terms of sound?

You could just put a playing card in the spokes with a clothespin.

Then there was the Varoom upgrade.
My mom saved my Christmas Santa lists, evidently I got it on the second request.

No. You are missing a section of pipe that acts as a resonator.
Make your favorite car sound with your mouth, then grab an empty paper towel roll and make the same sound through it. There you go...

I know someone who did that “mod” to his 987 Boxster. It does sound loud cause it’s essentially creating a hole in your exhaust system. I also drove his car cause we swapped cars for a stretch of road during our group drive. It allows for the exhaust gas to exit a little under the car instead of out the back where it should go. It stunk up the car, and my wife who was sitting next to me complained of the smell. Yeah, it may sound significantly louder, but it’s kinda cheesy to do that to a Porsche. He eventually ended up putting the exhaust sleeve back as it should be. You’re breathing in exhaust fumes by doing a mod like that. Better to get a real exhaust system that is fully sealed and goes out the back instead IMO.
