I just bought a 2014 991 and it has a manual shifter in carbon fiber. Unfortunately the prior owner did something and the Silver portion (with the gear numbers) is a pretty scratched up. Does anyone know if you can replace just this piece? It’s odd - everything else is in great shape but this bothers me as it’s really the only blemish and former owner must have had a ring that he banged on it repeatedly.... Alternatively - anyone have a similar issue that maybe they were able to repair somehow? I’m not even sure if it’s metal or a plastic trim. any help is appreciated. Just trying to avoid having to buy a whole shifter... thanks.
per the parts diagram the shifter and boot are all one unit, so unless you're getting something from a wrecker or someone who disassembles these and sells the individual pieces, you may be SOL.
if I had to guess, the shift pattern coin is glued on, and under that is a torx screw holding the CF trim piece on. seeing as how the part is a comical one thousand real earth dollars, I'd be hesitant to take a small screwdriver to it and start prying, but that's proooobably what needs to be done. report back if you take the plunge.
You can try some vinyl wrap on it. Use a hairdryer to shrink it and the wrap should conform to the indentations. The trim off excess with a sharp exacto knife.
Or, remove shifter, tape off and plasti dip the top portion.
Thank you all for the advice. I am going to try a light sand/polish and see what happens. If unsuccessful, then I'll probably go for the vinyl wrap option and see how that comes out. Really appreciate knowing that it's not a separate piece and the good ideas on a possible solution - very helpful! Will report back.
I highly recommend using a metal polish with #0000 super fine steel wool. Do not use anything coarser than that. #0000 will not scratch the surface, just take enough to get those fine visible scratches out. Just use a metal polish with it and really mask off the carbon and leather (the last thing you want to do is hit the CF clear coat or leather). Or better yet, if you can remove the piece off the ****, that'll reduce the chances of you slipping and you'll polish it up very nicely.

@Yc911Kid - Have been searching and keep coming up empty handed. Thanks though - will continue to look. @AlexZTuned - thanks for the detail This will definitely be my first shot.

Reason: Hit finished too soon.
I think buying new isn't bad idea so you can keep it clean. it's right on the center of the car so scratched **** will make car look overall old and dirty.

1000% agree with you - hopefully one of these options work or I'll just have to bite the bullet. I had no idea it was this complicated or I would have pushed harder in the negotiation .

maybe it's too small of a part. I can find anything either
If the sanding doesn't work, I'd say purchase the non-CF model, remove the shift pattern part from the new **** and replace it on your beat-up CF ****.
I understand what you're talking about with the CF ****. My car came with it as well and I really like it. I'm going to replace the shift boot to match my alcantara steering wheel.
