Default In Praise of the 991.1 C2 (Base)-Track weekend

I just have to say, this recent HPDE PCA event over the weekend was my first in my 991.1 C2 w/ SC, where I had 4 good tyres, a proper alignment, and is a track I know very well (MSR Houston).

I did an event in Jan. 2021 with it, unaware my alignment was off on all 4 wheels, and the rears on the inside were almost down to cords... I honestly couldn't really tell that much as prior to this, it had done limited driving on my 14 mi/day commute.

But, after getting a local shop to throw on new rear PS4s, full brake service (which it needed anyway at 57k miles) all around (on stock OEM equipment and pads), and alignment, this thing finally runs like a 911 should. I had no issue passing people in my group in 991 GT3s, new GT4s, M2s, etc. Not that HPDE is 'racing', but, it is nice to know that you can trust your car to do what you want it to do, brake when it's supposed to, and push hard out of corners with no whiff of oversteer, like was previously happening. I just set it in Sport Plus and let PDK do it's thing. In some sessions I ran in Sport in 'manual' but I have the buttons still, which aren't quick enough to change gear in Sport Plus. Once I swap my steering wheel, I'll give it a whirl.

All that to say, when people who have C2s talk about them being 'enough' for most people, even with track use, they aren't lying. I know we all want the next badge level up, but, it feels good knowing how much potential is in this car and I can build on moving up groups from there.

Completely agree with OP. I have a 991.1 C2 cab and I feel like I'm holding so much back driving 35mph or 65mph. The car just feels like it wants to do 100mph minimum anywhere. The C2 is more than enough for any road or daily use, that is for sure.

Honestly the base Carrera has long been the best bargain in 911-dom. The S/4S/GTS/etc all trade for so much higher both new and (especially) used that the bang for the buck of a C2 is hard to beat.

That's a great way to put it. It felt very satisfying pushing this 'base' car to the extent of my limits, and it didn't flinch and did better against much higher priced 'opposition', for lack of a better word lol.
Excited for next time out, which by then hopefully I'll have my new Sport Wheel w/ paddles installed.
