I've seen some threads floating around with 'What's in your garage?' or 'What other rides do you own?' But has anyone ever thought about what they would get if Porsche didn't exist as a company. I think a lot of us would jump in a Boxster/Cayman/GT4 and this thread would likely turn into a 911 v Cayman debate so excluding all Porsche's entirely!
With that said, what car would you get to make you feel the way the 911 (GT Car) or your Cayman (GT Car) makes you feel?
What about this car(s) does it for you?
Maybe you already have that as another toy? Tell us about it! More importantly, share pictures too!
I am curious to find out if there is another niche vehicle that us, Porsche owners, lust over or maybe we all already share a massive interest in.
I should start:
There are two cars that I always lust over. One I've had over 8 years of ownership and the other have yet to obtain. E46 M3 and Mid 60's Alfa Giulia GTV. A little background on me and what makes me tick (in terms of cars). Simply put, I get what makes me feel good, regardless of brand, has good lines and visually looks good to me and fills the gap that I am in need of at the time in life. But these two cars are a must have cars in the garage, for me.
I've always loved the lines of the E46M3 and still do. When I got mine for the first time 15+ years ago it was an emotional experience. I spent a lot of time, blood and sweat getting it to how I envisioned it once it was mine. I sadly don't have my E46M3 anymore but every time I see a clean one on the road it breaks my neck! I feel the body style is classic, timeless and will never age in my eyes. If I could (rather, when) I get another one, I would love to build one with my son as a project car and put in a V8. LS, S65 or even the current Voodoo Engine would be the ideal E46M3 for me.
The AR Giulia is another car that I simply love the lines, simple no nonsense get in and drive. Take in the all the senses have to offer in a car that can be taken to the limit on the street today in a safe manner. One day I will add one of these keepers to my garage!
I also had an E46 M3 ZCP. But ever since switching to the 911, I feel like I need to have a car that’s a bit more purpose built and not something that is developed off of a commuter chassis.
I loved my M3 to bits. But it’s not an M3 that replaces the 911. There’s not many that can replace that perfect mix of purpose built for sport with enough comfort for daily driver.
What would be on the top of my list around the same price range is an Audi R8.
Others would be an Aston but they are a bit more expensive. An F-Type is too heavy and numb but oozes style. A Lotus Evora is very high on the list but lacks that refinement.
BMW for sure. I had an M5 and my wife is on her 3rd BMW. Like Porsche, they are practical, but when you pretend you are being chased like in The Italian Job, I’d want to be in a BMW.
Maybe a BMW (I have a Z8 and an X3), but, I think Audi R8 checks all the boxes. Preferably with the V10. A friend of mine has one with manual and it’s very, very sweet.
100% I'd be driving a Lotus Evora GT (well, except for when it's in the shop for repairs, which would be most of the time).
Either that or I would be lobbying Alpine to import the A110 to the US
I'd be looking at the newer NSX's I think. There was a lot to like about my C7 Grandsport, too. But this time a manual Z06 for sure. And definitely not a C8!
The 812 Superfast is a dream car, but... Just a dream 😊. I think that's why I love the C7's so much. Poor man's version.
Edit to add the LC500. Been on my list for a while. I do wonder how truly bad the infotainment/touch pad is as it's always the thing that comes up in reviews.
Mine would be the e30 m3. Thankfully I have one-it’s not a gt car though so if I had to do one it would probably be the r8 manual. Here’s a pic of my e30 m3
In all honesty, I would want something with a manual transmission, so I would probably lean towards the M3/M4, or possibly older manual transmission Ferrari or manual Lambo. For me, again, this is just me, I get bored of automatic transmissions, and as good as the new cars are with their automatics, I wouldn’t be 100% satisfied. So my list would be a very short list. I would consider a C7 grand sport too. Love that package. They can handle damn good too.
100% I'd be driving a Lotus Evora GT (well, except for when it's in the shop for repairs, which would be most of the time).

I test drove a 2020 Evora GT. The handling is superb. The supercharger whine is a riot. The looks... great face, great rear, but goofy in profile. It’s a factory-built kit car complete with donor engine and Best Buy stereo. Build quality is not bad on the outside, but the interior of the floor model with <300 miles looked beaten up: pulled stitches, missing male part of the visor fixture, etc.
I didn’t fit which made all of its vices and virtues moot:
but a very cool car nonetheless.
If not the 911, I’d probably have kept my GT350R. I considered a BMW 1M, M2 CS, but I’m 0 for 2 in BMW ownership and not loving the direction of the brand. I considered a Ferrari 360 and F430 but probably wouldn’t fit.
So... Shelby GT350R.

If Porsche did not exist at all, I would just get another Lexus to go with my LS430. Probably an LC. The only German car that I even considered getting and being able to live with electrical glitches is a Porsche 911. The enjoyment, styling, and dream car since I was a kid, all outweigh the little quirks. No M, AMG, etc. have wow'd me to say that I could live with glitches faulty warnings and be okay.
