Default 991.2 GT vs Non GT Steering Wheel

Does anyone have size comparisons for the .2 GT (360mm) and non GT Steering Wheel (370?mm)?
I've also read that the GT wheel might have a thicker grip... any experience?

My goal is to try and lower the overall diameter of my .1 non-MF, non sport design wheel.

I've never measured them but my 991.2 GT3 wheel is noticeably thinner than my 991.1 sport steering wheel is.

Before I changed my alcantara GT steering wheel to leather GT steering wheel, I asked Suncoastparts regarding any thickness differences. They say all steering wheels have same thicknesses. Just 10 mil difference on diameter.
One thing I missed on my .1 steering wheel is 12 o'clock stitches, somehow .2 steering wheels on non-GT cars don't come with it.

The leather wheel is a non GT and the Alcantara is a GT out of a .2 GTS.

Now the leather one has been rewrapped so its a little thicker, I can't confirm if its normally like that. The Alcantara GT wheel feels much thinner than what I am used too, which is BMW M/Msport steering wheels. Size difference though is there.

My 991.1 GTS has the leather sport steering wheel and my Touring the leather GT sport steering wheel. The GTS's steering wheel is wider and thicker. I like them both for different reasons. The GTS's steering wheel feels more like an "old man's car" steering wheel compared to the GT steering wheel but it also feels more substantive in my hands. Ultimately, I think both steering wheels are perfect for their respective car and they definitely give each car a distinct tactile driving experience. I will bring a soft measuring tape home from work (one of my tools of the trade as an orthopaedic surgeon), I will measure the diameter and thickness of both wheels and I will report back.

That would be most appreciated!

here are some more for you. I got a wheel that was wrapped but didn't realized it wouldnt be the GT wheel. Difference even though its just 15mm. Both wheels are sitting flat on table.

Here are the measurements I came up with for the 991.1 sport steering wheel (mine in leather) vs the 991.2 GT sport steering wheel (mine in leather):

991.1 GTS sport steering wheel: Diameter - 14 3/4"; Circumference at 12 o'clock - 4"; Circumference at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock - 4 3/4".

991.2 GT sport steering wheel: Diameter - 14 1/4"; Circumference at 12 o'clock - 4"; Circumference at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock - 4 1/2"

I was surprised to see that the circumference of the two steering wheels is actually the same at the 12 o'clock position. The circumferences differ at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock by 1/4", with the GTS steering wheel being thicker. There is a 1/2" difference in the diameter of the steering wheels; the GTS steering wheel is 1/2" wider than the GT steering wheel.

Looking at picking up a GT wheel to retrofit into my 991.1. Do we know if the above measurements, at 10 and 2 o'clock, was on the raised thumb indents?

Anyone else feel the GT wheel is too thin? I'm replacing a 991.1 Sport Design wheel.

Thanks!

I put .2 GT wheel on my .1 GTS. I it should have been thicker.

Was this the style of 991.1 GTS wheel you were comparing it to?

That matches (I think) the Sport Design wheel I currently have. A 1/4" reduction in circumference seems minor if you were measuring the same spots on both wheels, but both are much smaller than the BMW wheel I'm used to.

But, honestly, I have no issue with the rim circumference or wheel diameter of my sport design wheel, I just want the MF and Mode switch upgrade and prefer the look of the GT center section (black "T" trim with silver inserts plus rivets).

Anyone compared the .1 SD wheel to the .2 Sport (non-GT) wheel?

Yes.

And for the record, I like both steering wheels. I have big hands, so the 991.1 GTS wheel feels more substantive in my hands, compared to the sport design wheel in my 991.2 GT3. I would be happy with both steering wheels in either car but if I had to choose one, it would be the 991.1 steering wheel because it is thicker. Looks-wise, I think the 991.2 steering wheel wins but overall, I'll take the thicker steering wheel of my GTS over the thinner one of my Touring.
