I have the current GT style alcantara steering wheel it is thinner than my previous 991.1 Sport wheel and WAY thinner than my previous M-Sport BMW wheel. I like the way it feels in my hand and love the smaller diameter. I may try a thicker wheel at some point, but for now I enjoy the smaller diameter alcantara wheel.

And for the record, I like both steering wheels. I have big hands, so the 991.1 GTS wheel feels more substantive in my hands, compared to the sport design wheel in my 991.2 GT3. I would be happy with both steering wheels in either car but if I had to choose one, it would be the 991.1 steering wheel because it is thicker. Looks-wise, I think the 991.2 steering wheel wins but overall, I'll take the thicker steering wheel of my GTS over the thinner one of my Touring.
Hmm, sounds like I should get my hands on a GT wheel before committing to it. I'm very particular about steering wheel feel.

Do we know if the non-GT (non-rewrapped) .2 wheel is any thicker/thinner than the .1 SD wheel?

In terms of diameter, this listing (which is identical for other Porsche dealership parts systems) says that the GT wheel is 369mm, which is essentially the same as the .1 SD wheel.
