Default Key fob malfunction?

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem- both of my key fobs no longer work . Well, they work about 1/10 times when I push any of the button(s)- lock, unlock, trunk release. Of course replacing the batteries was the first thing I tried, but no luck. All other electricals in the car work fine. Any ideas for a simple fix? Hate to waste a whole day taking it to the nearest Porsche dealer 3hr away if its something I can address myself.
Thanks (2017 C4S)

Had the same issue happen to me. All of a sudden, I could not lock my 991.1 on a busy street in my hometown while parked. Could not resolve the issue and drove off. Fortunate enough it only happened once. Never found out why. Do not have keyless entry/go/drive.
I assume that there are some kind of interferences like radio-waves or wifi or else in the air, which obscure the signal between the 991 and the sender in the key fob.
Like I said, just an assumption.
Does anybody know where the receiver (antenna) is located in the 991? Or any other insights on the issue?

Kuma has it continued not to work?

Was this at home or out and about?

Just thinking there's an interference somewhere.... New LED light fixture. New appliance.......etc.

Throwing this out there: I had a "key not found" fault intermittently for a while. I changed the key fob batteries, but the problem persisted.

I got a suggestion here to shim the battery case, so that the case was making better contact with the battery. I ended up cutting three very small (1mm x 1mm) pieces of black Gorrilla tape and then firmly seating the case cover down. Ever since then, I've had no further issues with "key not found" messages.

The only other thing I can think of is your service battery ('17?) is on its way out. It used to be that every BMW I had would exhibit wierd random electrical gremlins when the battery was near end of life. Swapping out a new battery typically resulted in better starting and all those odd issues went away. Just an idea.

You can always use the hard key which is integrated to your key fob in case of a malfunction. There is a key hole under the door lock handle.

What does the panic button do on your key fob? Does the car alarm go off? Mine does not have that. Maybe it's an USA thing?

Sounds like the internal antenna/module got loose. If it's under warranty, make that trek to the dealer. Ask them for a turbo as a loaner, since that's 12 hours of driving total you've gotta deal with.

mine too.
After changing batteries the fob still doesnt work 90% of the time.
I found that the battery cover is not holding the battery snug enough. If i squeeze the battery cover the fob works. I just added a small folded square of paper inside the battery compartment so the fit is tighter.
Now it works!

Yes, it will set the alarm off.

Well, I actually figured it out after reading the seldom-before- opened "Owners Manual", which said to check for any signs of interference from other electrical devices in such cases. The only thing I had plugged in was my dash cam, but I figured since I bought it last summer and the fobs worked fine then, it could not be the culprit. But it was! Unplugged the dash cam from the cig lighter, the fobs worked fine. Plugged it back in, the fobs go kaput. Because of my OCD, I did this at least 10x, and the results were the same . Other devices plugged in did not result in fob malfunction. What's puzzling is not only why it should "interfere " now, 8 months after i bought the cam, but how it must be emitting interference without the car being on. (The dash cam shuts off when the car is off, but must somehow be drawing a little bit of power from the car (parking mode is off)). Strange, but I'm glad I don't have to go to the dealer now. Just have to figure out what to do with my dash cam now, which is firmly stuck onto the windshield with double sided 3M tape.

Interesting, I'm having this same issue and it seems like before I got my recent dashcam, the key was working fine too. Now I'll have to try and see if the dashcam is perhaps the issue.

Interesting, what brand of dashcam? I run a thinkware and thankfully, I don't have this problem.

Nice work in finding the issue, Sherlock.

That really is strange that the dashcam turned out to be the culprit. I have a Blackvue and no issues.

Viofo A129 duo (front and rear cams). Its a shame since I really like this cam- excellent image quality , good features, very compact and discreet.

FOBS not working, neither is the Hard Key! Any suggestions? I'll keep working on it.
