Is the PPF wrap primarily to protect the paint? Does it enhance color or shine? Should one continue to wax or ceramic coat after? Thinking about doing it but need more info from you folks who have experienced it please...
As others have stated a PPF is a clear or transparent product. Any flaws or imperfections in the paint will bee seen. A full paint correction would be the best way to go before applying a PPF.
I inherited a silver vinyl wrap with a slight matte finish. Vinyl wraps cover the paint below with their own color or colors. In my case the light silver matte finish is a perfect match for the paint underneath, so the transition from the vinyl to the paint in the door jambs or under the hood is almost impossible to notice a shading difference. A total color change is going to be something different. How far do you want to go with door jambs, under the hood & rear deck, etc.
Last time I spoke to the installer, he mentioned that overall PPF's or wraps can be treated just like paint. They can be washed or even waxed, but be careful around the seams. As far as ceramic or graphene coatings, I'm not sure. On the face of it there could be benefits but they are sealers and could prevent a lubricating solution to penetrate the PPF or Vinyl that keeps the materials supple over time. Again, find an installer you trust and ask them their opinion and experience. They would have customers that have tried various coatings and would have the best feedback, both good and bad.
Exclusive Vinyl in Queens NY charges about $3500 to wrap a 911 and they do insane quality work, fully wrapped edges etc, much better than the guy who gets hyped on RL... so IMO yes you can get a very high quality job for $3500. I was close to having my car wrapped Inozetek Midnight Metallic Green or Super Gloss Violet...
It's been mentioned already, but make sure the paint cures for a couple of months before any wrap. Otherwise the paint will peel off with the wrap removal. I saw this happen on an episode of bitchin' rides... 😊

I would respectfully disagree with those numbers. They seem like they are from 2010 rather than 2023
I wouldn't expect to find any average or decent shop to even respray either of my bumpers for $500 let alone a whole car. As for entire car, even Maaco wanted to charge $2100 for my Patina'd 987 back in 2015 and it was their 2nd worst paint/[package. That was 2015 and the world around us has entirely changed since.
Any above average (but not even close to top 5%) shop would charge in excess of $5000 for the very basic paint job and estimates will be close to $8000+ at a reputable shop that deals with high-end cars.
Actually I think even your numbers are low: a good paint job is well over 10k these days and that’s for something slightly lower than OEM standards. Bumper resprays are nearing $2k.

From experience... Don't wrap the car. It doesn't last very long, fades, and rips/chips very easily not offering much protection. Pay a little more and go with PPF over the car. They have PPF now that actually changes the color as well. You'll wish you went that route a few years from now. Mine has full-body PPF and it's great. No worries leaving it outside, covered, highway driving, easy cleanup, ect.
I was looking at a yellow 911, fantastic deal but I wanted silver. Called a very reputable shop in Houston, told him I want it wrapped in Silver. He said buy a different car. He told me a wrap is $8500 which includes a Porsche tech removing headlights etc. He said it would look great but under the Frunk would not be wrapped. He said if you want carbon fiber, iridescent, bring it buy, if you just want a factory car buy a different car.

That's when they wrap all the edges and tuck everything under all the panels and handles. If you don't mind seeing line around the body panels its 1/2 the cost.

you wanted to take a rare color and wrap it with the most common color? Yea, buy a different car.
I'm planning to wrap my car some time this year. I have XPel PPF on the whole car that I put on 3 years ago, and I've had 3 different high end paint/wrap/body shops tell me the very best combination is to apply wrap on top of PPF. I've gotten quotes for wrap on my car between $3K and $4K. I like the idea of changing things up and keeping the car feeling new with a color change, and I don't care if it's still OEM color under the hood, door jams etc.
I am 100000% sold on ppf. My 911 roof is the same height as the top of my Tundra grill, the 911 is a ROCK magnet. There is not road in Houston not covered in pebbles, rocks, road debris. A lot of shipping ports with gravel parking lots. Gravel gets stuck in tire treads, Gravel gets thrown off on highway. In addition constant and endless road construction. It is absolutely incredible my 911 doesn't have a chip, ppf is the ticket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My windshield is peppered with some chips. paint is perfect.
