Car Color and traffic ahead.............
I know this sounds like a dumb question, but has anyone had cars driving in front of you pull over to allow you to pass? I only ask as I was driving one of my favorite mountain passes in NV this past weekend and I had two occasions where the car ahead of me pulled over to allow me to pass them. I was driving at the same speed, maintaining a proper distance and not flashing my lights or being an ******* ( as some I have seen previously) and all of a sudden they pull over. I am sitting there wondering what the hell I did and my wife said 'What would you do if a RED Porsche was behind you?'
This is not the first time this has happened to me on a windy mountain pass and I started to wonder if it's the car or the color. I am driving a GUARDS RED 991.1 and am wondering how the color comes into play? Would a WHITE or SILVER car get the same reaction from other drivers?

I have had car in front of me pull over to let me pass. No aggressive driving, no flashing. They see the car in their rearview and want to get a better look by watching it pass them.

Yup, happens a lot - lava orange 991.2. or, as I affectionately call it, "arrest me" orange.
Was driving to a track 2 years ago, and a friend of mine - also going to the track - said he could easily see me from a half a mile away, so it's not exactly "stealth".

This is a really interesting question!
I've had Silver, Black, Carmine Red and (currently) Racing Yellow Porsche sports cars; at least so far as I've noticed, the color doesn't make a difference when it comes to people pulling over (or tailgating/trying to "race").
Locals who live on popular 'fun' mountain roads tend to know the score when a sports car is coming up behind them, and will frequently let you by. I've found really excellent passing behavior on these roads, and the more remote the better. On any kind of tourist or weekender routes like PCH, forget it!
I was originally worried that a bright flashy color would trigger more passive-aggressive behavior in those folks, but it seems like a Porsche will do that regardless of hue. Then finally, for those oblivious people who don't know what their rear-view mirror does, it doesn't matter either

Happens in silver 911 here. I think it partly matters on how fast you come up on someone and what their situational awareness is. If you come up on someone from a distance quickly and then decelerate and keep a reasonable distance they might think you want to get by even if you really don’t have this intention. Just a courteous thing to do.

Silver 911? Pretty standard sports car reaction. Lots of thumb-ups during the winter and kids staring, the occasional photo, etc.. I could see a lava orange or guards red 911 getting this treatment. I definitely have had this happen in my blue-framed Exocet.

Plain Jane Silver 991 - just last weekend I had 2 cars pull over on some twisties when it was safe for them to do so. I did not ride on their bumper or anything but they were very nice to do so. Has happened several times in the past.

Carrara white 911 here.
It has happened more often in this car than in my SUV. Still, more of a sporadic occurrence though I’ll take it when it happens.
I tend to drive the 911 like a motorcycles, faster than traffic so no one is camped on my tail.

Same exact scenario as described. After I finished the run, on the way home, the guy next to me at the stop light rolled his window down and said I should get a ticket just sitting there in a red sports car, obviously with a smile on his face.

It has been happening to me all the time on mountain roads. It's weird I'm not tailgating, I'm going at the same speed, and cars in front of me pull over to let me pass. I thought because my car is quite loud but I guess reading this post... It's just normal lol

I live in central PA, no one moves out of the way no matter what you are driving:
-If you come quickly behind someone and keep a safe distance they stay on their lane.
-If you tailgate they will stay on their lane and slow down.
-If you pass them on the right they will accelerate to block you from getting on that lane.
-If you pass them and manage to get on their lane they will try to tailgate you or flash their high beams or give you the finger.
Never visit central PA, we should split the State into Pittsburgh State and Philly State and leave the middle to the savages.
