Default Convertible Top Fold Marks

My 2019 Carrera S cab is about 18 months old. I’m getting these marks on the convertible top. I always park it with the top up. Clean the top with just water and dry with microfiber cloths. Have previously applied Porsche convertible top waterproofing spray. Do others have this problem? If so how have you dealt with it?

To me, it appears that something is rubbing the top when it in folded inside the compartment in that area. Maybe take a look and see if you can add some type of padding? Just a thought.

It looks like the flaps that cover the outside area of the top storage compartment. It definitely looks like excessive wear. Perhaps the top isn't storing far enough down and rubbing on the underside of the flaps when driving. I'd have it checked out while youre still under warranty.

Is it only on one side? It appears to be. If so, I would have the dealer look at it to explain the asymmetry. My '19 has some wrinkling, but nothing like that. Worst thing about convertibles IMO and one of the things I loved about my old Miata with the power retractable hard top. Those lines are most annoying.

That is not normal at all so as someone said have the dealer address it as a warranty issue, which they will - let us know the outcome in case someone else experiences the same.

Does that mean you put the top down a lot? Just curios. My 2015 does not have that.

Thanks all for your input! To answer a couple of the questions 1 yes it’s on both sides (but I spend all my time on the driver side of the car! ) 2 I drive with the top down almost all of the time. Love those heated seats for the winter and ventilated seats for the summer! I’m taking it to my local Porsche dealer on Monday and will report back. Now for problem number two. Any ideas on how to remove or reduce the scuff marks that are already on the top?

Periodic gentle cleaning and treating your top with Ragg Top or 303 Aerospace will reduce abrasive dirt in the top that rubs into it when folding. That treatment will also darken the top a bit reducing the appearance of wrinkles while providing UV protection. It's not doing to fix what's going on, but will help minimize its appearance.

Dont need much UV protection when the top is stowed 90% of the time lol

I have similar marks on my 2014 car. After cleaning they are much less noticeable but they appear again after folding the hood for a time.
I had a 996 with a really scabby hood so marks like this don't bother me.

Looking forward to hearing what the dealer says.
I too have marks, although not as bad as yours (2014 cs2 ... also with a dark blue top)

I adjusted the screw-down s"stand-offs" that are on each rear corner of the rear clamshell (one was down more than the other). I also added some self adhesive ultrasuede under the clamshell covering done wires and other protrusions.

If you Google (it may be on RennList or somewhere else) there are a couple of threads. Some people literally had holes worn in the top from rubbing.

One person covered the black foam pad (located under the rear clamshell) with talcum powder to see where it contacted the top ... and then tried to fix the contact points.

Another person's dealer did all kind of adjustments ... Cut down the existing black pad, and added additional padding under the rear clamshell.

I put loops of blue painter's tape on my wear spots and the retracted the top. Most of the loops stuck to contact points under the clamshell (usually at the edges of the black pad) I then tried to add additional soft material. I'm a little bit leery too make too many modifications because the car is still under Porsche pre-owned warranty.

Here is a string on RLhttps://rennlist.com/forums/991/952174-convertible-top-wear-7.html

And ... Here is a string on 6dpeedonline (there is another one too)

Thanks all! It’s at the dealer now. PCNA agreed that the wear was premature. Supposed to know more tomorrow. Will keep y’all updated.
