Is the 911 becoming the new Corvette?

Dude... I see way more 911's than corvettes at track days!
Porsche owners have more disposable income hence more money to track their cars.
Average porsche 911 owner has a household income of $200,000 vs corvette 87,756
NOT EVEN close to the same owner base...
Just the real facts...

I bought my 911 as a year round daily driver. Like the last one, and the one before that. And we live on a long, long gravel driveway...
I typically buy them used, and drive the cars fast, sometimes hard, but sane on the street. "Track days", "DE's" are cute, but wheel to wheel actual racing makes those look like silly autocross. You really can't have a car you're not willing write off on the first lap of every race when you're racing for real. And you can't have a remotely competitive race car that's street drivable...
I've been hit, had engines blow (as in ventilated blocks) and caught on fire while racing over the years. What a blast... Stuff the typical Porsche driver simply couldn't take. But, I get the prissy & polish folks. I've got a gorgeous old M-B SL and an ancient MG that hardly ever get driven, and mostly sit under their covers.

I've seen enough really nice cars stuffed into the walls at Laguna Seca and Sonoma over the years to figure out that I'd have to be a lot wealthier than I actually am to play those odds and keep taking new(or new-ish) GT4s and 991s to the track on the regular.
I felt compelled to reply to this topic because I've basically given up on finding a decently priced 981 for track duty, and now I've got my eyes on ... a C5 or C6 Corvette!!!
My T is no garage queen, and racks up miles on canyon/mountain roads and rallies, but I think it's got quite a few more years before it graduates into a track rat!

Great lookin T, ducktail... I cringe when I see club types creeping along in a line to the next winery.
These are awesome, and possibly the true ultimate driving machines. Get out there guys, find a windy road and go! If your car doesn't smell kind of hot when you get home, you're not doing it right...
PS: We used to live up Sonoma Mt. behind Sears Pt, ducktail. Sure miss those west Sonoma County backroads...

Jim, I'm happy to answer your question. Please read on...
I was very poor when I was a kid, I was destined to become another statistic. I wanted a Porsche 911 since my early teens. I left a third world country in my early 20's to escape violence and low life, one suitcase and $5k. Awesome Americans gave me a chance (thank you). I became an Engineer and worked my *** off, I am now a VP in a top 10 consulting firm. One day I realized it was time to fulfill my childhood dream so I got a Porsche 911 (twice now).
You may rash the crap out of your Porsche to feel accomplished. I wax mine to feel exactly the same way. To me is a tangible proof of perseverance, hard work and success, it didn't come easy for me. Every time I open my garage and see my accomplishment I look up to the sky and say "You were wrong about me Dad, I made it". I now spend countless amounts of quality time with my son in the garage, we wax and polish and vacuum, and we also chat a lot. One thing I always make sure to say is "Son, one day you will make it".
Hope I answered your question,
Poseur.
P.S. Check out my garage in my profile pic. My 911 and my son's MR2, cannot wait to drive together to car meets!

This post feels like it’s a visit to the psychiatrist.
I’ll play (sorry). I was heavily invested into a C8 until 1) I couldn’t get one 2) I saw how they were put together and 3) my wife told me to get the Porsche.
Now I’m a poser trying not to be. The car handles so sell I got car sick at my first autocross (yes I admit it Dr.). But while I’m going back I still wax my 991.2, spend time and appreciate the 911 for the car it is.

OP P
What the OP meant to say... I own a miata and live in my moms basement but troll Porsche forums with comments about 911s and Corvettes. I call my girlfriend my wife and she makes me put that red ball thingy in my mouth all the time.
