Showtime Audio in Chicago did my 991.2 with custom Randeso/ALP set up. check the control pad modification/button set up and moving the display to the mirror. Very pleased! Install was around 2500.00 if I recall. FB video link https://fb.watch/3LMcHnCymT/

While in the past they would sit on the side with their gun facing you on almost all the time, they’re now using instant on, laser, as well as hiding and shooting cars as they pass by with instant on. This makes it close to impossible to get any notification before you’re tagged.

In fact I would even say that waze has been more reliable than radar detectors. So sad to say but these devices are getting to be pretty pointless. Now if you pair with jammers, etc., I’m sure it’ll be more effective. But at the cost of jammers, not sure if it’s going to save you anything. And if you’re talking about those times you’re blowing by at 130 in a 55, it’s very obvious and you’ll likely still get pulled over.
Check out the latest Vortex videos on YouTube. He just posted a couple of very comprehensive videos on Waze and some of the other traffic apps that are emerging.

Like all things today it's not surprising that traffic enforcement has gotten much more technologically savvy. Defensive system have gotten better as well but no single system is foolproof. This is why you are seeing more multi-layered protection systems such as combinations of radar & laser. The traffic apps such as Waze and others can fill in some gaps that other technologies may miss.

As far a cost vs. benefit, it depends where you live. Here in the Northern part of the People Republic, that simple ticket will cost you north of $750. If you get tabbed for 20+ or in a construction zone you are past $1000 and heading towards $1500. Oh and then there is your insurance, first violation is generally 10% premium, second is 20%, and beyond that they may drop you. Also, the premium hits are not on just the car you got the ticket in, they same hit goes onto all your vehicles and stays there for 5 years. This can total up to thousands of dollars. Take a look at the thread that's running on the 991 forum about insurance costs, there are some real horror stories there.

As far as blowing through an enforcement zone at 130, nothing will save you. At that point you're down to two choices. Pull over and hope the officer will take pity and write you up for 99 and reckless driving and not impound your Porsche and put cuffs on you or RUN......Running is a viable option depending on traffic, where you are and if you have some type of instant plan where you could run to. Most Police jurisdictions have rules not to pursue high speed chases so your odds of getting away are probably 50/50. However, if you do get caught , you are going to jail and the Porsche will be impounded and you will be spending major dollars on legal fees to make this go away.

The Radenso Theia is suppose to blow away everything out there when it comes out (rumored in March/April). I got my R7 this month and have a mirror mount on it. It took me about 5-10min to wire in with the powered mirror, so no dangling cords, I’ll probably sell and upgrade to the theia when it comes out.
Totally understand the cost situation. However, around here we have Dragon Eye, which has anti jamming abilities. Most jammers cannot jam it. If I bought a jammer and then got hit with dragon eye and got a ticket, I would not be happy. Figure an ALP may be $500 more than a comparable unit that does as well as the ALP in everything except dragon eye. But figure that $500 savings is going to be the attorney and court costs, or the ticket and insurance increase costs. Support of ALP is very good as well. They also have regular updates. I need to have 100% confidence in the equipment that I run, otherwise I would rather not have the false sense of security. Prior to COVID, I was driving around 20k miles a year, so the best equipment is important.

I will consider Theia when it comes out depending on what it looks like. If it looks too modern, or looks cheap (by cheap I mean it's all shiny black plastic), I will probably keep my V1 Gen 2, which I think fits in well in the interior of my 997. If it looks classic, or just slightly modern and is not too large, I will absolutely upgrade. Either way, I will probably consider one in my daily driver.
