Default Motul 8100 X-cess 5W-40

I'm considering trying Motul 8100 X-cess 5W-40. If you have used this oil in your 991.1, can provide your opinion please.

Thanks

Fair enough, these threads usually cause some... friction. But seriously, as long as people stay aware from "Bro, the oil you HAVE to use is..." then we should be OK.

On that note, check out the Ester based Motul Sport. Particularly at higher heat (and for those with the .2 we generate a lot of heat) the viscosity results compare favorably with X-cess. The sport is a bit harder to find.

BTW, I've run this in my 996tt for many years with good results. 991 is new to me and I'm running a Porsche Service fill right now. And as said above, there are many good oils. My local Indy fills customer cars with X-cess.

I have not used it, but I intend to. LN Engineering recommends it and I trust them.

For Porsche approved lubricant we use and recommend Motul 8100 X-Cess 5w40.
found here.

For some time I believe that the Gen2 product did not carry A40 approval. It seems that the Gen2 formula was created to meet BMW LL-04 and has since been approved by Porsche as still meeting their A40.

All you touting Motul 5-40 do have UOAs and have you compared the wear metals to other oils/UOAs? I have been using it for the last 4 changes and I am just (disappointingly) realizing my wear metals are typically consistently higher when compared to other oils/UOAs. I will be adding Ceratec and see if this helps and which will be evidenced by my next oil change's UOA. This is however on a 997, YMMV.

BTW I thought LN recommends DT-40 (which I will be switching to on my next oil change based on UOA results I have seen and compared)
Carry on ...

That's a great question. Me? No. I usually find UOAs over on BITOG that drive my oil of choice. That's why I use Shell Rotella Gas Truck in my JL Wrangler, and used Motorcraft in my GT350R. Perhaps it's the newness of the 3.0T, or the fact that Porsche owners service their own vehicles less often than other marques, that explains the dearth of UOAs.

Yes, but DT40 is not Porsche approved, for what that's worth. For a Porsche A40 approved oil they recommend Motul 8100 X-cess 5W-40.

Default Yes

I put it in for the first time, no issues an has not burned any. I'm sure its as good as mobile1 or others. I was worried that mobile 1 may be following other manufacturers model now that they have the largest market share and may be cutting cost/quality. I have no proof but this is a repeatable recognizable pattern in corporate america. If you can't get 15% growth a quarter something has to give or someone is gonna get a 5 foot shorter yacht.

I find the best prices for Motul stuff is www.RMEuropean.com. I don't trust Amazon not to sell me fake Motul.

I am tempted to try the 300V next time. Warranty is up in May anyways....

300V is a great oil, but it is not designed for long life... It's designed for maximum protection with frequent, low mileage changes (aka motorsports). I believe the issue is viscosity stability. IIRC even the shelf life on it is fairly short.

I've been running Motul 8100 X-cess 5W40 in my Mezger Turbo and now the 991 Turbo for a while, good stuff and IMHO a better choice for a street car.
