What is the issue with Waze? I used it for the first time last weekend on my new to me 2017, one thing that I noticed was that it works, then it seems to get disconnected.

With regards to getting highest performance possible on carplay... is it not like Android Auto, where it's almost entirely driven by the attached phone, rather than the headunit? Android guy here, so pardon me if it's a stupid question.

Nah, it's the same as android. AFAIK all of the MIB4 units are ARM Cortex A7 Tegra2 T30 CPUs. I have a 2017 C2S, and I've never had a complaint about the speed of the infotainment unit. My 2018 Volvo V90CC, on the other hand, is *terrible* when starting up and for the first 5-10 minutes of the drive. It literally takes about 5 minutes before it becomes responsive. Since pretty much everything - climate controls, nav, audio, etc. - is driven from there, and there are no backup hard buttons, it's a royal PITA. The Porsche is a pleasure in comparison.

Ish. Some day I hope OEMs figure out that buttons aren't evil. Boggles my mind the direction they're going -- have you been in the new Cayenne? Haptic touch flat panel buttons on the center stack. Absolutely bizarre.
