Ben Franklin once said the richest man in the world is he who is content with his Porsche (Or portion, I forget which).

The current chase is a gray on red 992 turbo s cab.

4 car stable, 3 bmws (wifee x5, e93 cab, 645ci) plus my 991, - 1 space for the home gym = 2 live outside.

I eventually wanna go macan or golf r for daily and keep the turbo for the fundays.

I'm trying to keep it (relatively) tidy with one car for each of 4 purposes:
  • Volvo XC90 for the family hauler (already got it)
  • Used Audi S4 for "the other car" and winter
  • 964 Cabrio for 3-season fun
  • GT4 for the track
Problem is that I only have space for 3 and one of those has to be outside in the driveway - I guess the S4. No 991s, I know.

Default Golf R

I have a 19 golf R and after 6 months of ownership I recommend. Great 6 speed and space. The new ones for 22 have a messed up interior.

I had a '19 R before the 911. I found the 6 speed to be.. lacking. Ended up putting billet endlinks on the shift cables and a spool valve delete to get some feeling back into it, at which point it was solidly mediocre.

Have they found a way to stop it from revving automatically as you let out the clutch when at a standstill?

Took me 20+ years to land that +1

2014 TTS - Purchased in August 2020 - This will be our retirement travel car once will pull the plug in the next couple of years. Stupid fast car with amazing comfort.
1972 911 Targa - Purchased in 1981 Displayed and represented 1972 model year at Rennsport 2018 at Laguna Seca. Lets me keep my hand in driving a manual transmission.
2004 Supercharged Dinan S3R - Purchased in 2006, Sent car to Dinan in Morgan Hill in 2007 along with bushel basket of money for a turnkey upgrade. Was my daily for 7 years. This car is a juvenile delinquent and encourages very bad behavior.

Daily's - 2011 Audi S4 with a stage 1 tune and a 2013 BMW 328 with a Dinan tune with Ohlins on all four corners. Audi is one of the best cars I've owned in 20 years. We could part with the 328 without looking back. Future may be small SUV in hybrid or full EV to run errands around town and haul crap.

Heaven is: The cars are German, The food is Italian, The Police are British, The Lovers are French, and it's all organized by the Swiss

Threadjack but please permit for the shared love of all things petrol...you MUST tell me why the Audi is one of the best...approaching your situation similarly in the sense that I have a 2008 BMW 128i that I'd love to keep just for the brand purity and heritage (small, inline 6 N/A, 6MT, RWD, hydraulic steering, pure BMW at its finest with enough modern electronics that do not yet filter out the driving experience) but I want a better winter faring car (ie AWD). Now that I have the 991 no need for a small BMW anymore really. Stuck between the B8 S4 and BMW 335x-drive sedan...love the E90's and that BMW steering feel. I even hear you can defeat the AWD and make it RWD as needed, plus lighter than the Audi. Cheaper, easier to find...really leaning towards the BMW but tell me why you love the Audi please and which I should pick...

I initially thought it was an Audi TTS, but I think it is a 911 Turbo S (Twin Turbo S).

The right number and the One all depend on how much fantasy to indulge. I can "realistically" think about recovering my 964 C4 or have a wild dream about a 962 with Lemans history.

Default ApR plus

Yes, but the apr plus tune fixed all the nanny behavior. I did end links in the rear and it really hooks on a mountain road. The only complaint is the stupid acc cruise control you can not turn off. Apr plus puts at 355 ish hp and is great for a daily. With the seats down my entire toad bike (58cm, wheels on) fits inside the car. Its an ugly little thing but there is just no arguing against the functionality.

We're pretty happy with our current lineup. Can't see changing anything out. Cross-posting the pic, but love the way the threesome looks:

Why I like my S4 - 2011 B8 purchased in 2013 with 31,000 miles. Previous owner had Stasis Stage 2 Tune, with intake, and Stasis exhaust installed. Purchased used for $37K. Additional mods I have done: Giro Disc rotors, Endless MX 72 brake pads, Endless high temp brake fluid, and larger front and especially larger rear sway bars. I run RE71R's year round because I can. Currently have 164,000 miles and counting.

Pros - With the tune, guessing I'm around 400HP at the wheels. It's a very quick car and fun to drive. It's dual clutch so like our 991's it has multiple personalities depending how you want to drive it. It's a great 8/10s car at the limit. Push beyond that and it communicates very clearly that you have pushed beyond both the car and your limits. The interior is so much better than BMW, The seats are super comfortable and over all the interior is just a nice place to be for a simple commute or a 4 hour road trip. Like all Audi's it eats freeways and the sound system is way better than the best BMW systems. Personally I think the interiors of all newer BMW's are ugly POS.
Cons - Mainly due to age and mileage found all the Audi B8 gremlins, thermostat, AC compressor at 100,000 miles, $90 position switch inside transmission that required complete disassembly of transmission, plastic parts of cooling system that had to be replaced at 150,000 miles, etc. Overall to me cost of keeping car in perfect operating condition is worth it as I really like the car, I'd get killed on depreciation if I purchased a newer comparable car, I have zero monthly car payments and any repairs just come out of monthly cash flow. This philosophy allowed us to buy the 991 TTS earlier this year.

My suggestion is to look at the newest B8.5 you can find. Most of the gremlins I've mentioned were addressed in the mid life cycle refresh.

Currently have a 991.1 C2, a 964 Cabriolet and am looking at adding a 991.2 GT3 when prices fall more (probably around when the 992.2 GT3 allocations open up, that's how it usually works).
