I'm considering trading my 2017 Macan Turbo DD for a 991.2. I am concerned about the road noise but after 24 years of flying military planes I can't hear a thing (except for the ringing in my ears). We have a 2017 Cayenne GTS for the big stuff.

If I could only have a SINGLE car - it would be the Macan Turbo. 987, 991 and 2020 Cayenne and each is so drastically different that it's fun. With a Cayenne, a 991.2 would be a great compliment.

No problems here in Chicago either. I daily a manual '13 C4S, 85mi round trip and occasionally fit my 2 toddlers in the back for dropoff/pickup at daycare. Kids always squeal when they see me pull up for pickup. We have a GX460 for all other family outings and I also have a LSB e46 M3 as a weekend toy. I think an SUV and a 911 is the perfect combo

In the summer I daily my 991.2 GTS. Have no complaints with it. Previous people have mentioned highway noise, but compared to previous cars the GTS is quiet. Even with PSE on, relative to other vehicles I have had my neighbors much prefer the Porsche.

My dilemma is what to get as my winter car. Currently DD an E63s in the winter. Love the power, a great highway cruiser, and AWD is needed. Not so hot on the ground clearance. Has more room than we need (no kids), but we occasionally shuttle parents/in-laws around. Would love a Taycan, but the ground clearance again is no different than the E63, and the range is an issue as I often take the E63 to the mountains on weekends which is 250 miles one way. The closest charger is 10 minutes from our condo, and no option (yet) to charge at the condo. Definitely would like to consider an EV.

The Macan checks off many boxes -> AWD / ground clearance / handling / power (depending on trim) / can use my bike rack / can take a ski box.

Could pare the fleet down to a Macan / 911 / Taycan. Wife would drive the Taycan I have been informed.

I have an 8yo and a 9yo and our only two cars are a 991.1 and a 964. Now, you won't be able to do any road trips in it cause of the luggage constraints and you won't be hauling lumber in it, but other than that, it can do it all. As long as the kids aren't teenagers, they'll fit fine, the backseat in the 991 is much larger than the one you had in your 996.

Why? They love it. It's much more fun than driving around in a lumbering SUV and they're both "car people" now. We live in the canyons above LA, so every drive is a little fun anyhow.

We had a GLE43 as well but we let the lease expire in June since we don't really need a big car during this pandemic. We'll probably pick up a Range Rover or whatever giant thing my wife wants when the world gets back to normal but honestly, we could live without it if we were so inclined.

I think it's' super doable as long as you are realistic about what you can and cannot do. I'm in the same boat with a family of 4 (wife + 2 kids under 5) and my other car is a Honda Odyssey. We're in Northern California and I drive 30 miles to work every day in the Porsche and I love it. I have 2 WAYB Picos in the backseat for the kids and they love trips with dad and we havn't had issues with legroom. You won't be able to fit a larger bike or anything like that but the frunk fits scooters and a large backpack just fine, and I'm thinking of getting a roof rack for weekend trips. Anything more involved and we take the Odyssey. The back seat will get used, you'll have to vacuum more frequently, and there will be dirt and sand everywhere after a trip to the beach, but if that sounds ok, I think it's awesome. It feels like such a privilege to drive a 991 every single day, to the point where I'm worried it's spoiling me and setting unrealistic expectations on how cars should behave. It's also made me fantasize about passing it on to one of my kids someday and that adds extra meaning to the car. And of course if that's the case then my wife will have to be ok with me getting a GT4 to pass onto the younger kid right???

I also drive my 991 everyday. 50 miles total daily commute to work along some mountain twisty highway roads. Frequent school drop-off/pick-up duty for my 3 kids all under the age of 12 who always prefer the Porsche over the Honda Odyssey. Like others have said, not only can this car do it, but it always feels special to be able to do it in a 911.

Turned down a CPO 2017 Carrera with 22,600 miles today. White, PDK, Premium Package Plus, etc. Good deal but it turns out the previous owner painted the brake calipers yellow (poorly, I might add), had it lowered and had an after market exhaust. Too many red flags for me.
