Yes, if you decide to go with the V1 Gen 2, I think you'll enjoy. I bought one in May and used it in my GT3 during the summer. Great unit when paired with V1 Driver for iPhone.
I used to buy and test out the newest detectors every year, but ultimately there are too many that come out now and it's easier to just let someone like Vortex with real world data instead of subjective data test these out.
Thanks all, for the amazing experiences and feedback. I would have liked to pickup a redline 360, but they are sold out everywhere I checked. $429.99 for the 360 max, seemed like a good place to start. I’ll keep an eye out for the Theia unit that was brought up.
I've had various radar detectors for over 20 years and have been "saved" countless times. With the current generation of detectors, there is no wrong choice. Everyone makes a good unit and it comes down to overall personal preferences as to which features one brand of detector may have over another.
Currently I have 3 older detectors, 2 Escort 9500's and 10+ year old Escort 9500Xi built in unit in my daily driver business car. The windshield detectors work OK but after living with a built in unit for a decade, when we bought the TTS earlier this year, there was no question about which direction to go. With a built in unit there are no cords to worry about or having to remember to pull the unit down so it does not get stolen. It is just there 100% of the time. After doing some research curtesy of Vortex videos, and the RD forum I chose to go with the following setup: Escort Max CI with front & rear antennas, radar mirror to hide the display, and Stinger laser shifters for laser protection. I agree with previous posters that the ALP laser units are likely a bit better but the heads are large and very noticeable on the nose of a Porsche. The Stinger fiber optic sensors are almost invisible. To me stealth was more important. So far the system is working very well and I am vey pleased. Separate controls for Escort and Stinger Radar Mirror gets rid of display stick to the dash. There are 4 pairs of Stinger laser shifters on the nose. Can you spot them?
now that's a sweet setup. i thought about a similar setup but was too stingy to pull the trigger. stuck with the MAX360c i already had. will probably go your route next time around. very nicely done sir
I was notified tonight by Amazon that the 360 I ordered with next day delivery was now delayed. I've found lately that Amazon is doing a very poor job of delivering on its promise of 2 day and next day delivery dates. I called them to let them know I wasn't happy about all the missing and late deliveries in the last couple of months. I explained to their customer service that their delivery dates seemed overly optimistic compared with their actual delivery times and, as a customer, I would appreciate it if they wouldn't make a promise they can't keep. The agent just apologized. I realize they can't do much, But I do think they need critical feedback when they are failing on the basics. I canceled the order and went to Best Buy and picked up the 360c. They didn't' have the regular 360 in stock, so I spent about 120.00 more and supported a somewhat local business.
My GT3 Touring has a fully-integrated ALP laser jammer and the Escort 360 radar detector (as installed by Moe at Glistening Perfection). I have been surprised by how infrequently the cops have hit me with a laser. Only a couple times in almost two years. But yes, the ALP does work and quite well at that. The Escort has been very solid but there have been times when I have seen a CHP on the side of the road and...no warning. Perhaps they did not have radar deployed, perhaps the Escort missed it. All that being said, since I obtained my Touring in March of 2019, I have zero tickets in my Touring (knock on some serious wood) and I have one speeding ticket in my non-protected GTS cab. I never go jail-worthy speeds in my Touring but having the ALP/Escort combo definitely gives me a little extra confidence to gas the car a bit when I get an opening on the highway and when I am on the gorgeous backroads of CA. Personally, I think the ALP laser jammers are pretty subtle and look like they could be a part of the stock car. They are the three small black sensors attached to the grill in the front and the sensors are in the license plate cover on the back. All of the interior electronics are hidden in the smoking package and the LED above is fully integrated into the car as well. I agree with the others who laud the Escort's ability to learn "false alarms" and its overall modularity. I'd give the fully integrated ALP/Escort a solid A and if you are looking for an installer, Moe Mistry is the best in the business!
Very nice installation! When going with built in systems the key is finding a very good installer as there is some fabrication involved to mount displays and controls. The smokers package is the perfect spot for hiding the controls.
In the Bay Area, I recommend Sound Innovations. Ernie & his team stepped me through my options on both hardware and installation. Because Sound Innovations has a laser cutter and other fabrication tools he was able to custom create some of the mounting hardware for the laser jammers and other components.
Northern California is a simple but interesting environment for speed detection. Ka band is almost exclusively used by both CHP and local PD's. Allows X&K bands to be turned completely off which gets rid of a lot of false alarms. There is some laser but not a lot. Usually see it with stationary CHP and motorcycle enforcement. CHP still uses the tried and true total stealth method and just paces cars on the highway. it's a giant game of letting your electronics warn you when they can and paying attention to what is around you and watch rear view mirror and on ramps as you pass by. Another plus is that Porsches are relatively common so unless you are driving a brightly colored GT car with a massive wing, it's easy to hide in traffic and not be the focus of the CHP.
The best part is there are a lot a great driving roads such as Calaveras & Mines to name a couple and they are lightly traveled and patrolled if at all.
I have moved to radenso, after years of Escorts and v1. They are quite good and have free lifetime redlight camera etc updates. Escort IMHO rips you off on the defender database.
Why all the love for Radenso?? Im all for the little guy but I dont get what makes them so desirable
It's really only Radenso Theia, which should be coming out by the end of the year. Theia should solve every issue with a radar detector. By using AI they are going to be able to analyze whether It's a blindspot monitor false, door opener false, etc and mute those, only alerting to real signals. So no more lockouts needed. No detector to date has been able to do this.
my thoughts exactly. the tech sounds fantastic. a little above my techy pay grade but i understood the jist of it. could be a game changer. lets hope they can execute in the real world.
