Default 991.2 vs 981 clutch feel

I wanted to know if anyone has experience with a 981 and a 991.2 clutch. I am selling my 981 manual and getting a 991.2 manual (which i have not driven). I wanted to see what anyone thinks on the difference of the clutch feel. It is a harder clutch than the 981? I dont want to but the 911 and regret not driving it first, but it is far and i would have it shipped.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

Totally subjective, given the time it has been, but i believe my 911 clutch has a lot more finesse and ease of use than what was in my 981. Pretty much everything is better in the 911, with the exception of the interior where there is no noticeable difference IMO.

Good luck!

I had a 6MT 981S for a year before buying my 7MT 991.2 last June. There’s virtually no difference in the clutch take-up, imho. It’ll take you maybe 10 seconds to learn the new ‘bite’ point of the clutch on the 991.

Ditto - essentially they're the same to all intents and purposes.

Not harder in sense of difficulty to engage etc. But the 991.2 clutch pedal is much "lighter" in that less force is needed to engage than in the 718 and 981. Every time I get in my 991.2 GTS after using my 718 Boxster I inadvertently mash the clutch pedal to the floor. Had a 981 GTS Cayman before the 911, same surprise after I traded. I guess Porsche wants to protect the joints of all the old folks driving the 911

Anyway you'll be fine and adapt after a few miles. No worries.

+1. Just traded in my 981 BGTS for a 991.2 C2S less than a month ago. No difference in pedal effort, if anything it's lighter in the 991.

Exactly this. I had both 718 and 991.2 at the same time (long distance trade) and had the same experience. I now drive my 991.2 and don’t miss the clutch of the 718. Funnily, both make the same noise on cold (sub 40F) startup though.

Related question that I have been wondering about: is the MT gearbox the same (ratios) between 981 and 991? I see reviewers commenting that the 981 is very 'tall' in 2nd and 3rd, but haven't seen this compared with the 911's of the same era.
