Default Anyone else's parking sensors freak out randomly?

Every now and again, my 991.1's parking sensors will flip out like a cat seeing zucchini. I'll be slowing down for a red light with a clear road in front of me (or sometimes a car ahead of me well beyond the sensors' range) and then all of the sudden there's intense beeping and the screen will light up like X-mas with the sensor diagram showing red everywhere. It will sound the alarm for a few seconds, and then just stop. It's like the system has a public freakout and then realizes that all the other cars are looking at it weird, so it gets embarrassed and calms down. (sorry, I tend to anthropomorphize my cars)

I can't seem to find a pattern. It's happened in all ranges of weather, so I don't think it's water throwing off the sensors. It's happened soon after a full wash, so I don't think it's dirt or debris. And, it's intermittent/random enough that it's impossible to take it to a shop and replicate/verify it. It does this maybe once every 3 or 4 months. It even happened once when I was just sitting in my driveway in park. (No animals or small children around). So strange.

Has anyone else had this issue?
If so, is there a fix?

I have not had all bug out at the same time but will have 1 occasionally light up when stopped. Thought maybe a fly flew by. If under estranged maybe dealer can reboot. refresh or recalibrate system?

Next time it happens, check to see if the car in front of you is a Ford or a Ford-era Volvo.

Came here to see this, or post it myself.

90+% of the time it is a Ford. Happened in both of my Macans and 981 as well.

nothing that bad but I do notice the 911's PDC is pretty dumb compared to my old Golf. big snow flakes and going under 15mph or so? light 'em up.

Ghosts.....

But seriously I think it picks up the exhaust vapor from the car in front of me most of the time when mine freaks out.

i assumed it was my PPF over the sensors that was giving me the occasional bug. are your cars wrapped?

Just happened to me today and it has happened before. At a turn lane waiting for the light.

I will have to keep an eye out and see what model vehicle is near me if it’s triggered again.

Happens to me also. I’ll take note as to which brand of car next time.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'll start checking out possible cars in front of me the next time it happens. I hadn't even considered exhaust vapors as the possible cause. I take at least a little bit of comfort just knowing that I'm not the only one this happens to.

And to answer usccharles, no, not wrapped, and no PPF, so we can probably rule that out.

Happens to me too, but I've never figured out what causes it. I'll take note next time and see if it's a Ford.
