Completely empty. Would be a great spot for sunglasses but I keep those in the door pocket. If I switched now, I'd have to train myself to reach back there so, eh...

Don't use the rear area for anything expect storage, for bags on trips and such.
If I had to do it again, I would have inquired about a rear seat delete option when I ordered my car. No small children to tote around any more.
