Summer Tire Storage?

Summer Tire Storage?
Do they have to be in a climate controlled environment for winter storage? Should I have them at a certain tire pressure? I have the Pirelli P Zero's.
My garage is detached and not heated and it would definitely get really cold in the winter.

We've had these discussions a lot here. Generally speaking, r-compound or even Cup 2 tires should probably be stored above freezing. Regular summer tires? They're fine in the garage below freezing, especially if they're not moved or touched when it is below freezing.

Thanks. That is what I figured but wanted to make sure. Mine are the max performance category at Tire Rack noting like a r-compound or Cup2 tire. The will sit on a rack until spring time.

Back when I had them, my P-Zeros were mounted to the car on the freezing cold garage floor (some carpet pads under them of course). No big deal. I had driven on my P-zeros in temps as low as about -5 C and never had any issues.

It sucks but I haul mine into the basement every season. R compounds are major no-no to leave out in the cold. I would rather be safe then sorry. We left a set of my wife's summer tires in the garage one winter, 2 wheels per stack (Pilot Supersports) and the following spring sidewalls were cracked.

Good to know. I will leave mine in the garage on the rack. Did not want to haul them up and down stairs.

Just for off the phone with Pirelli, they stated above 45 degrees F. Looks like down in the basement they must go. UGH
Also off their warranty sheet.
14. Storage Should you need to store tires they should be stored indoors in a cool, dry place. Tire storage areas should be cool (45° F ~ 75° F), dry, non-dusty, and moderately well ventilated. To protect your tires from damage related to heat, water, ozone and direct sunlight, it is suggested you place them in opaque, waterproof containers (e.g., plastic trash bags).
Thank you all!

What is most important in storing tires is to keep the ozone off them, that means buy a tire sleeve for the stack or cover them with furniture pads. Also don't place near the furnace if in the basement, as that emits ozone.

My unheated garage experiences temp swings of 20 or 30 degrees F on a sunny winter day and the minimum gets well below 0 F at times. Not a good climate for tire storage. So, I lug them down to the basement fruit cellar and double bag them for ozone protection.
