Correct. The light spool is just for transient throttle response, and as a byproduct allows you to hit full beans that much sooner. I'm no expert either, but I've been elbow deep in turbo engine building, tuning, and unfortunately failure, and something that allows me to more easily hit low speed high load numbers just doesn't sit well with me.

Above 3k or so? Hell yeah, let's do it.

My car is a 991.2 without Sport Chrono and with PDK. Sport mode on when I want to drive. Loping around town I leave Sport mode off. I also have Sport Exhaust and get lots of pops and crackles with Sport mode on, much less with it off. Biggest impact for me is gas mileage. Sport mode off get me 18 mpg on short trips around town which is amazing compared to my E39 BMW M5 which barely breaks 12 mpg!

I put mine in Sport or Sport+ before my seatbelt goes on...if all it had was a normal mode I would not own one; however, if it did not have a manual and Targa top I would not own one either.

Don't like the pops / cracks programed in on my 991.2TTS in "Sport" , so I keep it in "Regular" or "Sport Plus" in manual mode solely to stop the Pops & Cracks.

Seems like the computer is keeping the throttle/psi up but when I go to shift and press the clutch there is a delay for the RPMs to drop.


I have a GTS manual 991.2, so I think I know what you mean about Sport mode. It may be secondary to the car trying to rev match to anticipate the next gear, so boost may remain elevated a little, to keep up throttle response for the next gear.

I drive a 13 991.1 C2S PDK. I drive in Sport with PSE in manual (paddle shift) mode 99% of the time, unless on a date night with my wife, I keep in "Sport" auto shift with PSE.
The only time I use Sports Plus mode is when I re-confirm I do not need to use it unless I ever make it to a track somewhere.

I totally dislike sport and sport plus modes without question...they make me abuse my car and, they make the abuse much more enjoyable.

I also drive a 991.1 C2S with PDK, and do not like Sport+ if I leave it to its own devices. That's because Sport+ in the 991.1 holds every gear until the revs are practically at redline, which may be great for the track but not so much in the real world. However, I have found Sport+ to be a ton of fun around town if I combine it's aggressive downshifts with more appropriate around-the-town manual paddle up-shifts. Whenever Sport+ has dropped the car into too low a gear (or if I'm starting off from a stop sign or red light in 1st), if the revs get too high for comfort I just manually paddle-shift up when I feel the time is right to prevent the PDK from holding the gear to redline. In essence, I drive the car in something of a quasi-manual/auto mode. I use the paddles to manually shift up, but let Sport+ auto-shift down. Works great, and I've found it to be a very engaging way to drive the car.

I'll try Sports+ with paddle shifting, but I agree that leaving it in auto Sports+ it seems damaging for the car
