Exhaust sound 991.2 GTS with particulate filter?
Hi everyone. First post!
I'm dailying a Cayenne but it is time to live a little and jump into a 911. After test driving a lot different models I have my sights on a 991.2 GTS.
One has popped up with all the right options, and it's a recent one as well which was built dec 2018, i.e. model year 2019.
However, just by pure coincidence when googling around, I found that since I am in Europe that this one has a GPF, i.e. gasoline particulate filter due to regulations changes. This was apparently a new regulation which was taken into effect from sept 2018?
Has anyone heard or own a 991.2 GTS with a particulate filter and can attest to if the exhaust note is changed to the worse?
I have searched like crazy and can find a lot of info on the speedster which they managed to keep a good exhaust sound on, but since the 992 is a little bit muted due to the GPF (??) I wonder if the 991.2 GTS with GPF sounds somewhat like the 992?
I wish the car in question was close to me, but it unfortunately it isn't.

Not a lot of Europeans here so I'm not sure we can chime in with much feedback. What I do know is that from some of the videos I've watched on the YouTubes is that the comments often centre around the particulate filter negatively impacting the sound of the exhaust. There were some particularly negative comments on the 718 GT4, so not sure if this emissions change is more impactful on NA or turbo motors, or equally bad across the board?

Boy those GPF’s really neuter the sound. I’d be curious how these are fitted to a 991.2, the exhaust area with headers, turbos, cats and muffler is already tight.
Could you possibly remove, install an aftermarket system and reinstall for inspection? That’s what I used to do when I lived in California - now I live in a state that doesn’t nanny cars at all!

I’ve been in a car swapping journey of late and I think you’ll possibly go the same route if you buy a 991.2 with GPF.
I thought I’d be okay with the sound. So bought a 991.2 GTS without a GPF and over time felt like I was missing out.
I now own a 991.1 GTS and feel it’s an upgrade.
If you’re after the newer car I’d go with the 992 as they’ve improved the cabin sound to cope with the GPF on the 3.0T and the 991.2 with GPF doesn’t have that interior exhaust sound upgrade.
I went with the 991.1 GTS because I like the older feel of the 991 and the exhaust sound is more important to me than I initially realised.
Buying the wrong car was expensive. The 991.1 GTS and the 991.2 GTS prices are starting to get very close together. They’ll cross soon.
All are great cars but the fact you’re asking about exhaust sound now is a sign you’ll probably always be thinking about it and in 6 months regretting the 991.2 like I did.

i went from a 991.1 GTS to a 991.2 GTS with OPF and have zero regrets. The 991.2 is much better to drive. It has much more oomph out of corners, cruises more effortlessly and it steers much better (they improved the epas between .1 and .2). The 991.1 is just slooow by comparison. Having grown up with older Porsches where the sound is petty muted anyway, I do not mind the softer sound of the 991.2. The OPF on the 991.2 mutes the car a bit in a direct comparison with a 991.2 non OPF but not that much that you will notice it in day to day driving. However, if sound is the most important criteria, get the 991.1 but if you want the better Porsche, get the 991.2

I feel as if I can get the best of both worlds if I just have a little bit more patience. Once you've done all the research on a specific car and everything is right with options etc and then a curve ball shows up in the form of the OPF in this case, it pretty much sucks. If only it was built a few months earlier...

Sorry for waking this old thread again, but i ended up getting a 991.2 GTS with OPF since it had everything I wanted. Sound inside was pretty good still due to sound symposers but backfires/pops were hard to hear and outside it was muted as video showed.
Anyway, I put the sharkwerks muffler delete on it and i’m happy to report that the popcorn machine is back in sport mode and sound is awesome both inside and out. I would say it’s louder than stock without OPF, except that it loses some raspiness. Still damn close and extremely happy with the results.

But I can tell you that a sharkwerks exhaust makes the car pretty awesome soundwise (even heard that from people without a GPF), so particulate filter at least on 991.2 can be solved. I don't know if it is that easy on the 992 since they sound even more muffled.
