Sonic incident
I never do this but I am just bumfuzzled. I go to Sonic for a sandwich 1-2 times a week now for a year in my near perfect Guards Red 911 that I drive daily. A new carhop comes out and supports one side of her tray on my A pillar! while she rummages through the stuff on the tray. I don't notice till I hear it hit the pillar I thought (It might have the noise of paint popping). I told her to not rest the tray on my car!!! I get back to the office 2-3 minute later and sure enough she had chipped the paint to the metal on the A pillar slightly sharp point where it meets the windshield. Quite visible and just where I see when I exit the car/!! I went back to complain and get their insurance but really, can it be properly repaired without a big deal? Probably not to my approval so I will touch it up and just bitch for months I guess.
My question is, I am nuts to think you can go for a sandwich without stupid stuff happening? It is quite visible and I am pissed. Not directly at her, just at stupid **** that happens. There, I have vented but strangely it has not helped.....

Always ****ty to see when someone else damages your property.. One thing to consider if you go through insurance is that there will be damage reported on the cars history which can cause headaches down the road. It sounds like the blemish could be a candidate for touch-up? Body shops will almost always recommend more work than necessary for obvious reasons.

The answer is YES.
No one cares about your car more that you do. And certainly not people who get paid minimum wage.

this to me is the issue. no one cares about your possession, no matter the value, and they certainly do not understand the value of an older car. you compound the issue with most people's lack of awareness of other people's property in general, but no one is nearly as worried about your 964's a-pillar than you. the whole thing makes me hesitant to drive my cars to most locations and that's a bummer. it's really hard to go anywhere and expect someone else to appreciate what a small nick or a scratch or a door ding means to a 30 y/o car with original paint. 1/10 of 1% of people might get it. these are our crosses to bear, not theirs.
like 737, i have a volvo V70R wagon. my anywhere car.

Here is what just happened to me. Bought my car drove it less than 100 miles. Dropped it off at the stereo shop for amplifier work and when I went to pick it up the Jacka$$ backed it out right in to a jeep that he just pulled out to move my car.

I go to Sonic occasionally in our 991. Thankfully no issues…..there. I did have an idiot back into our parked car, where I park at my office. Fortunately someone saw it and got all his information before he tried to drive away. His comment was “what’s the big deal it’s just a scratch” Turned out to be a $6500 scratch, and now I am suing him for 31k in documented diminished value. People can be scum.

I was driving along a quiet city street on a quiet Saturday evening, minding my own business, when an overzealous police officer ran a red light at speed and T-boned the SUV next to me, pushing it into the side of my car and totaling it. I'm grateful that I had only 1 broken rib and some bruises. The passenger in the SUV spent several days in hospital with 8 broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Well said. For me about $3,800.00 in repairs Not the end of the world, but watching it happen was a bit rough. Glad everyone is OK after your experience at the end of the day that's really what matters.

Not to make too light of the situation. But...Throw some paint on it, enjoy your Sonic, and move on. Your time with this car is way too short to stress over this.... Look at it this way, You taught the young lady a nice lesson, at your expense. Hopefully she takes it on board and is more considerate in the future. You have the means to be much better off from this, she may not be.
You can do a LOT worse damage to your car just by driving it/enjoying it. Would that make you feel worse? Or better? I am in the process of replacing my second windshield. I HATE having to do so... But it doesn't get cracked by sitting in the garage, so I am paying to play. Especially in Texas where even the dust is big enough to hit ya!
Channel your inner Dude and abide.

Stupid **** happens all the time to everybody sooner or later, and no, venting doesn't always help. But putting things into proper perspective might.

This is part of that cosmic law which guarantees that no matter where you park your Porsche in a parking lot, even in a completely empty area, when you come out, someone will have parked in the spot right next to you, as close to your car as possible.
