Yesterday i changed my porsche 991.1c2s 2013 battery, and i found this bite mark i think from rodent/rat, do i need the change the part immediately? Is it important/vital part of the car? Thank you, sorry for my bad english

Doesn't look like a critical part, but the rodent problem likely won't stop there. Apparently becoming more of an issue in recent years as car makers (likely including Porsche?) use more and more plant-based/biodegradable (read digestible) materials.

Not that non-digestible status ever stopped a hungry rat!

 

One of my greatest fears with this car. Last oil change, I found a bunch of acorns in the engine compartment and the frunk, so a squirrel or squirrels were making themselves at home and munching their meals there. Asked my SA to look for damage and he saw none (this was when I took my car in for the heat shield service in June). Have seen a few mouse dropping too over the years. And, the car is garaged. I have done what I can do to plug holes and put in electronic repelling devices, but it is an ongoing and frustrating battle.

 

i put some rat poison in my engine compartment and frunk after they attacked my llast C2,,lots more bait and traps near storage area and woodpile,,dont have dogs/kids to worry about,,,U might put some hot sauce on that area that got chewed..

 

Moth ***** around the car can help as deterrent. Rat poison would be good too. Mouse and rat traps let you know you got them. I have heard of electrical repairs costing thousands due to some type of critter damage.

 

mine was $700, chewed thru the O2 wires, had to replace the whole wiring assembly which of course had to be special ordered..

 

It took some time to cause that much damage. They may be nesting somewhere in your car and not just visiting for snacks. This time of year, mice are looking for a place to spend the winter. Your car will do nicely.

 

There is a definite correlation between rodent damage and driving the car more. The more they sit, they more likely it happens. Definitely put mouse food(pellets) down in your garage.

 

Had this same problem with our old Honda Pilot years ago. They apparently made their wire insulation out of a soy-based material. Rats loved that and it caused havoc with electrical repairs. When did Porsche start doing this? When VW took over, or earlier? Wonder how worried us 997 guys should be?

 

I would use traps along with the poison (or better yet, instead of poison). Last thing you want is one eating poison and then dying in your car.

 

Saw a rat running around the garage last night for the first time. Flooded the garage with poison. No kids and no pets so can’t wait to find his dead body today.

 

Do it yourself pest control is a great place to buy what you need. They sell stuff the pest control companies use. I have been purchasing supplies from them for six years to treat for a variety of pests at our lake house. The carpenter bee traps are pretty cool.

 

You guys are clearly not driving your cars enough. LOL 😁. Let assure you, with my daily driving and semi-solid engine mounts, they won’t be trying to make a home in my 911!

 

Repairs on my 997 Turbo ran about $4k. That included dropping the engine to make sure all affected wiring was replaced. I have bait traps galore all over my garage now. Sealed up a couple of entry points as well. Definitely not a problem you want to deal with!
